It's a lovely picture just the same! I tried to mess with it in Photoshop for you, but it's too low res & not formatted for my Adobe program so none of my usual tricks worked. Still, wow. I'm guessing it's a Red-Shouldered hawk.
Ahah thanks! These actually have a pretty heavy amount of fixing done to them in Photoshop already - they were super dark and I tweaked the levels until they got to where they are now. I took the photos at 300 dpi, but since I was so far away (I was using a 200 mm lens, and the tree was in the back yard of the house across the street) the pictures came out fairly grainy. I actually cropped out a lot around the hawks. Man, what I'd do for a telephoto lens!
Thanks! I hate to blame the equipment but I'm always wishing for a 'better camera' or 'a better lens' when it comes to shots like this. Of course, it's probably very much user error, too. :D
I know! I've never seen a hawk with a full crop in the wild OR in captivity. And I used to work at a museum where we fed the hawks. This guy must have fed to capacity. D:
Hawks are freaking awesome. Even though red-tails are the most 'common' hawk around here, they're still fairly uncommon. Seeing one is always a treat. :3
