I keep forgetting to do that ACen update I told myself I would do. So here I am at work doing one now during my lunch break.
As far as the convention itself? It was very disappointing. I'd say the ratio between cosplayers and non-cosplayers was 1 to 2.5. YES, 2.5. The line to registration was O_O. There was this totally emo flaming guy that kept fanning himself like the flamer that he is and said, "I don't do sweat." *fanfanfanfanfanflamerfanfanfanfan* Two days later when I was the Crimson Squad, he took pics of us. I was surprised. Nice guy, though. Just amusing.
On the first day, some dipshit pulled the fire alarm and I heard rumors that there was an electrical shock in the arcade room. Then I hear later that day that there wasn't really one. -_-;
The Hyatt roomservice sucked. The 2nd day we were there, I asked for more towels. So I call housekeeping and ask for more. They then ask me if I was part of the convention and I told them 'yes'. Because of that, they told me to go down to the basement and get it ourselves.
WTF was that all about?! How fucking Ghetto. I DID NOT pay $150 bucks a night for a hotel room to do that shit to us. -_-; It was dumb.
The FF-gathering was a little disorganized and ghetto when it first began. There was this Seifer and Squall cosplayer who were complete and total attention whores and douche bags according to Shino. The Seifer (read: Cypher) kept referring to himself as "See-fur". I was like, "O_O WOW. HE CAN'T EVEN SAY HIS NAME RIGHT." It made my Seifer-muse pissy, to say the least.
Stuff in the dealer's room were hella expensive, too. Who pays $14-15 on a 10-page doujin? (That's when you count both sides of one page) I was like, "o_O Dude. What the hell? I'm waiting for Fanime so I can get doujin from the Yaoi Con booth." Even though I got an Orphen doujin for
sorcererhuntres, I didn't get much of anything else except a Jean Havoc shitajiki/pencil board, an Urahara cel strap, and a Trigun towel for $12 while the vendor across the hall sold it for $16.
There was a group of IIDX cosplayers who were total scrubs. I was dressed as Siren and Jei was Nix and they totally ignored us. They knew I was there because the Tekka looked at me, and so did the Celica. What, we're not l33t enough for them? Geez.
The good parts about it were the people we kicked it with, meeting Ally, Maki, Ron, and seeing Doug and Mako again. The sessions of Para Para was awesome, of course. The Masquerade was pretty cool, too. I was just surprised that the performance judges didn't get to present their awards, but it was still nice to get one. And the FF12 cosplayers that were sitting behind us were pretty awesome. And I got to take a pic of Balthier being a dork! :D
But yes. ACen? Definitely not coming back to it. I'm gonna try for Otakon 2008.
For Fanime, I think I'm still gonna have the same line-up, only I'm gonna insert Eliwood in there somewhere. I don't think I'll have the time to do Hwang. Maybe for JTAF in September? Not sure yet. But I'll definitely get him done by Y-Con. I'm also being asked to cosplay Phoenix Wright so I guess I'll be adding that there, too.
After Fanime, no more expenses, and I'm getting 3 pay checks for June! :D :D :D I really should look into cosplaying Gene Starwind. But only after my list for 2007 is complete.
I guess that's it. Time for lunch.
