Your last point, Sam chewing on his wrist, well, it's just Sam doing what he needs to in order to gte the job done is how I see it. Must admit that I thought it had something to do with demon blood when he first started but whew, it was for the devil's trap
( ... )
yeah, I completely see why Sam did it, but it was still a little disturbing for me to watch. Especially that bloody grin at the end. Freaky :S But very effective! And yeah, I thought it was about demon blood at first too
( ... )
i didn't like the scenes of cas watching porn, cas kissing meg, or meg being tortured. they irritated, angered or upset me.
i don't think we're done with the alpha plotline just bc crowley's gone, and i definitely don't think dean is going to let robo!sam just be soulless. the show's invested too much time in both those arcs to just drop them, so i think we have some big twist coming up before the winter hiatus that will somehow tie in those plots and STILL dangle us over the cliff. at least that's what i'm hoping for :D
I'm not particularly attached to Castiel, so I don't really mind when he's used as comic relief, but I can see why it would be upsetting. Especially the Meg thing - as you said, he doesn't see her as a meat suit (as much as that expression bothers me, so dehumanising, which I guess is the point) but rather her true form. So kissing doesn't make much sense. And urgh, the torture scene.
It would be interesting to see if they continue with the alpha thing! And I agree, def don't think they're giving up on the soul thing, I just don't know what direction it could take. Next ep better bet epic!
Anon because sexism discussions in SPN too often lead to wank.
Sry2say, but you probably don't have a hope in hell of getting far with protestations against misogyny when it comes to this show. SPN fandom is historically vehemently in denial of any misogyny in the show, and not only that, but it's likely that the writers just don't care.
It'd be nice to think that Dean's attitude is just rooted in his time spent in hell, but it showed up long before he ever went in - fans started commenting on Dean's misogyny in S3, but people blew it off then, too.
Historically, fandom's also ensured the removal of at least two female characters (Jo and Bela), if not more. TPTB know that the vast majority of fandom couldn't care less about female characters, as long as they keep the pretty boys on screen.
:S yeah, I figured as much. Still, it can hardly hurt to put a voice forward to let the writers know that not everyone is cool with casual (and not so casual) misogyny?
I can see why people are tempted to deny the covert misogyny (the lack of female characters that don't die, etc) because after all, the show is about the brothers, but overt misogyny ('night, girls', only women being naked during torture, etc) is a little harder to explain away, imo.
