So, I just watched 5.04 - The End. (And haven't seen the rest of season 5, so if I say something that makes no sense, that's why.)
Holy crap. 2014 is SCARY and creepy as hell. 2014!Cas is hilarious, and 2014!Dean is a BAMF. And Sam... oh, Sam. Lost somewhere inside Lucifer :( Aaahkldsjfkla. Dean really is doomed if he does, and if he doesn't, say yes to Michael? God, (or, not God) I can't IMAGINE what it's like to be potentially responsible for THE END OF THE WORLD. And the same goes for Sam! I know he didn't mean to open the final seal, and he thought he was saving the world by killing Lilith, but still. Poor Sam! *huggles him*
But okay, since I've started, I guess I'll continue with what's been bothering me.
I realise that the entire series wasn't plotted out in detail beforehand, and these inconsistencies are to be expected, but still. So a righteous man who breaks down in Hell is the first seal? Was John really the first righteous person to be in Hell? I guess that righteous people would generally go to Heaven, and not Hell, so there shouldn't be that many of them, but had no one else made a deal? not for the last whatever-thousand years? What about the people we saw earlier who made deals, whether to become famous, be the best painter, or save their wife from cancer? Maybe using a deal for selfish reasons would make one not righteous, so that automatically cancels out, but the dude with the wife? Seriously, SOMEONE must have been righteous and in Hell at some point, and don't tell me they're all amazingly strong souls who will withstand the torture for hundreds or thousands of years.
... unless, of course, they weren't actively pushed to accept the scalpel until John arrived, or when the plans to free Lucifer had been set in motion. I guess that would cover some of it. Still, it bothers me.
Also. WHY does everything happen in the States?? I get that the show is American, and supposed to happen there (although filmed in Canada), but there should be at least some references to another angel/demon fight happening in Russia, or China, or Kenya. At least we didn't see all the 66 seals breaking, and it's entirely possible that some of those took place somewhere completely different.
AND. At this point, it looks like Dean and Sam are key players in all of this. But I can't help but think - what about all the times they died? All the times they almost died? Dean almost died in Faith, and only became healthy through some dark magic mojo. If John hadn't made a deal then Dean would have died in In my time of dying. If Dean hadn't made a deal then Sam would have died in AHBL1. If they really are these super special vessels, then would they have been saved, then? Were all the deals and all the times in hell unnecessary, then? Or would some other vessels have taken their place? What about all the other times when they almost died - like when Max is a fraction of a second away from shooting Dean in Nightmare. And WHY are they super special vessels?? I get Sam, I guess, with the YED and the demon blood and everything, although I don't know why him rather than all the other special children, but what about Dean? Although this might be explained later.
AND speaking of special children! That whole story line had so much potential! But I just... I don't get it. So YED has this whole thing about bleeding into a whole bunch of children, so later when they're grown up, they fight each other to see who's strongest. Fair enough - except, Jake wins, and all he has to do is walk across a railway and stick the colt into a keyhole. That... really didn't seem so hard. Couldn't he have just bribed or coerced some human to do it? And if Dean hadn't made a deal, then would Jake have been Lucifer's vessel?
idk idk. This is pretty weak for meta, but I gotta tag somehow. Hopefully more stuff will be explained as I keep watching!
