askdlfahkj I ask myself that all the time, haha ;;;; It's not just the speed! I can easily sit still for a 100K fic, but I need a break every 5-10 pages for a journal article. X3;;

God, blah. That's totally it, too. And, fic tends to be a little easier on the brain than what my coursework requires. That is, doesn't make it leak out my eeeeaaars. And if it did, there's always the back button... I don't think there's a back button for grad school :(

but this theory is interesting! So I can't even use the boring excuse. There's just so much packed into every single sentence that I need to take a break pretty much every paragraph to try to make sense of anything. It's a very time-consuming process.

Theory books are much harder to read, even interesting ones. Just a fact of life.
