It's definitely the internet. When I was in Senegal, far, far away from anything connected to the internet even by a dial-up connection, I would read what felt like a book a day. And not just the fictional drivel I normally read - nonfiction (albeit mostly about pirates and environmental concerns, two of my favorite topics!), "kids'" books, autobiographies, and even some those high-brow award winning books that don't make any sense and don't use real sentences
