He plopped down on his soft queen-sized bed and sighed tiredly.
Today was such a busy day. The three of them, Ryosuke, Chinen and himself, had spent a good part of their day - and evening - strolling around the New York City.
A smile graced his face as the memories played in his mind.
New York City was a gorgeous city for sure, from the street to the supermarket and buildings. It felt like just one day was not enough to see all the wonders present in this city. The people there were exceptionally polite to them as well.
Well, they did have cameras following everywhere they went. But still, he had many reasons to believe that it was not the only cause.
For one, three boys walking around the city with awed expression on their faces. It was not hard to tell that it was their first time there and the locals probably wanted to give them a warm welcome and good impression.
But…
He put his hands behind his head and continued to stare at the sophisticated design on his room’s ceiling.
From many evidences, he strongly believed that, mainly, the attention they got was because of the oldest boy in their group, Yamada Ryosuke. The Y in their NYC.
More than once, he saw people looking at the older boy with something akin to wonder on their faces. And he couldn’t blame them, for he was sure that it was how he looked at the older boy the first time he met him.
Ryosuke was just exceptionally cute and - dare he say it? He grinned wickedly. Oh yes, he so did - pretty. Beautiful even.
He chuckled in amusement.
The older boy would definitely kill him if he ever dared to say that aloud.
There was even one incident relating to that that caused the older boy to blushed madly. A smirk grew on his face when he remembered how embarrassed and flustered the older boy was.
It was just a bit after they went to ride that cart around the city. They accidentally bumped to a little girl. She hobbled and was about to topple down when Ryosuke quickly circled his arms around the petite figure and hold her upright.
The older boy then had squatted and asked her with his highly accented English, “Are you okay?”
The girl seemed to be thankful to him for preventing her from falling and grinned widely. Her eyes grew big when she had a good look on her savior and blurted out, “Oh my gosh! Miss, you’re very pretty!”
It was simple enough English for all three of them - and the staffs around - to know what she had just said.
He couldn’t help it. He could feel his mouth twitched. After exchanging a look with Chinen, they snorted at the same time and burst out laughing. He noticed that most of the staffs were trying really hard not to laugh out loud and hid their amused smiled. A few, though, lost their battle and joined the both of them in laughter.
And the expression on Ryosuke’s face! It was priceless!
The older boy’s cheeks were tainted with pink and he was gaping at the small girl, lost for words. Hearing the laughter, he turned around and glared at them. It would probably be a little bit frightening if not for his blushing cheeks that showed his embarrassment.
Then, the mother of the girl came and the small girl ran to her, blubbering in English all the while which was far too fast for them to know what it was.
By then, everyone had calmed back down and was finally able to stop laughing.
The lady then turned to the still squatting boy and smiled. She placed her arm around her daughter’s shoulder and drew her close.
“Thank you for helping my daughter.”
He watched Ryosuke smiled back and was about to answer and stand up when she let out a small gasp, causing the older boy to stop on his track to look at her questioningly.
Frowning a bit at her, he looked at Chinen, wanting to know what the older yet smaller boy was thinking.
He saw Chinen biting his lips in an attempt to not laughing and frowned deeper. The older boy looked like he had encountered this type of situation quite often. It was obvious that he was enjoying the scene that was unrevealing before them.
And, he learned shortly after, Chinen had a good reason to.
“Oh, my! You really are beautiful!”
All hell broke loose.
Quite literally.
Ryosuke had blushed even more than before and now all of the staffs were laughing freely. Even a few of them had abandoned their job in favor of watching this drama-like scene.
Well, to Ryosuke’s defense, his squatting position did not show his body stature and her judgment was based on seeing his face alone. It didn’t help that the clothes he was wearing can be worn by either gender.
The oldest boy glared at them again before turning to the woman and said in the best English that he could, “I am a boy,” while standing up.
The woman had a stunned look for a moment before apologizing and, after another ‘thank you’, walked away with her daughter.
He seriously believed that the little girl - he had never learnt her name - was still blubbering how pretty Ryosuke was, not really catching that her savior was, in fact, a boy.
He and Chinen had spent a wonderful fun afterwards at Ryosuke’s expense, teasing him mercilessly about how - once again - people had mistaken him as a girl.
A knock on his door pulled him out of his musing and his eyes darted to the closed door. With a sigh, he stood up and went to answer it, thinking that it will be the director or someone he sent to inform him about tomorrow’s schedule.
His eyes went wide when he saw a small statured boy instead of the grown up he was expecting.
“Chinen-kun?”
The older boy’s lips were stretched in a wide grin, eyes glinting with mischievousness.
“Sorry to bother you,” the boy said while walking into his room, sounding none at all sorry.
Furrowing his eyebrow, he closed his door and made to follow his band mate who had comfortably settled himself on his bed and was looking around the room curiously.
“It’s a bit different than mine,” he commented shortly.
Deciding that it was better to just go with the flow, he plopped down next to the older boy, “How so?”
“Well, for one, the view from your window is much nicer…”
He raised an eyebrow at that statement. Seriously?
“… the mattress here is much more bouncy too…”
He had to hold the urge to roll his eyes when Chinen started to bounce on his bed.
“… but most importantly!”
He watched uninterestedly as the smaller boy stood up and pointed at his face.
“There’s no Yama-chan in my room.”
He almost fell down the mattress at the exclamation. What on earth-!
Slightly panicking that maybe the oldest boy had indeed sneaked into his room - which was highly unlikely and not to mention impossible - he looked around before scowling at Chinen.
“I’m pretty sure that he’s not here.”
A devilish smirk blossomed on Chinen’s face and he couldn’t help the shiver running down his back.
“Yet.”
He raised an eyebrow at the smaller yet older boy.
“And, pray tell, what makes you think that he would be here later?”
“Easy,” Chinen plopped down on one of the comfy looking sofas. “He is too much of a scaredy-cat to spend the night half a world away from his family without any company.”
It was reasonable, he thought. After all, Ryosuke was a strange mixture of older and younger brother to him. Depending on what situation they were in. Guess the role of the older brother would be his - and Chinen’s - for the night.
There was one flaw in Chinen’s scenario though.
“Why here? He’s much closer to you. It makes more sense for him to go to your room.”
If possible, the smirk in the older boy’s face grew even more devilish.
“Ah! But I am not in my room, aren’t I now? Just where do you think he’ll go when I wasn’t there?”
He was very tempted to bang his head to the wall in frustration. Of course, only Chinen would - could - go through such extent just for the sake of ‘interesting story to tell his band mates later.’
If there was one thing that he had learnt about the smaller boy, it was that Chinen liked - no, loved - to tease Ryosuke. Or anyone in the vicinity actually. So far, he was lucky that he had not been one of his victims.
He had Ryosuke to thank for that.
Sighing loudly, he opened his mouth, about to give the older boy a piece of his mind when, as if on cue, a knocking sound rang once again from the direction of his door.
Chinen grinned at him and gestured at the door, silently prompting him to open it.
He shot the older boy a half-hearted glare but complied nonetheless. As he had expected, he found the oldest boy in front of his door, looking sheepish.
“Hey, can I spend the night here?”
He raised his eyebrow at the older boy’s straightforwardness. Ryosuke, though, seemed to misinterpret his expression as surprise at his weird request and blushed in embarrassment.
“It’s just, I’m kind of feeling homesick right now. So…?”
The ‘can I come in?’ seemed to hang in the silence followed afterwards.
Sighing inwardly, he stepped aside to let his band mate in. Ryosuke sent him a grateful smile and stepped in, but froze when he noticed the other occupant of the room.
“Chinen?”
The shorter boy grinned brightly and waved enthusiastically.
“What are you doing here?” Ryosuke asked as he walked to Chinen. Yuma just closed the door quietly and followed the older boy, once again plopping down onto his mattress.
“The same reason you do,” he heard Chinen replied.
Ryosuke raised an eyebrow. “Homesick?” The oldest asked unbelievingly.
Chinen just pouted, “What? I can’t get homesick?”
“It’s just that you never seemed to do when we were having concert out of Tokyo and had to stay overnight.”
“It’s outside Tokyo, Yama-chan. Now we are outside Japan!” The shortest boy waved his arms around for emphasis.
He frowned. Now that he thought about it, he was a bit homesick too.
“What?”
His head snapped up at the stunned exclamation, only to see his two band mates staring at him weirdly. He bit his lip.
“I just said that out loud, didn’t I?”
Two heads bobbed up and down several times and he smiled sheepishly.
“Guess I just didn’t notice before. Until you guys said it.”
The other two just looked at each other before shrugging. Then Chinen yawned widely, reminding him just how tired he really was.
“I don’t know about you guys, but I’m dead tired. I wouldn’t mind sleeping now.”
How Chinen managed to say that around his yawn was forever a mystery to him. He frowned when the boy proceeded to sleep right where he was. The frown only got deeper as Ryosuke plopped down on the other comfy looking sofa and did the same.
“What are you guys doing?”
The two looked at each other before looked at him as if he was stupid.
“Sleeping?” Chinen said slowly.
“There is a bed right here. You guys know that, right?”
“Yes, your bed.”
“I don’t mind sharing. I mean, we’re all guys anyway. Wait, you are a guy, aren’t you?” He asked as he turned his head to the oldest boy.
There was a twitch in Ryosuke’s lips before the oldest stood up from the chair and walked to him, whacking him at the back of his head. He could hear Chinen’s laughter at the background.
“Welcome to the group, Yuma-kun.”
Ryosuke whacked him too just for that comment.
He snickered and threw himself onto his bed, sighing contently. He felt a hand poked him on his arm and he opened his eyes to stare at the oldest boy.
“Scoot over, will you?”
He gave a grunt but still moved anyway, giving some space to the other two, snatching his bolster as he went.
Ryosuke settled himself beside him and Chinen laid down next to the oldest at the other side of the bed. He reached for the switch to turn off the lamp, but not before turning on the night light.
There was a snicker from the other side of the bed.
“You slept with a night light, Yuma-kun?”
He scowled as he imagined Chinen’s smirking face.
“I usually don’t. But, I thought you want to leave it for tonight.”
“I don’t mind either way. Yama-chan, what do you think?”
Silence.
“Yama-chan?”
A soft snore came from his left side and in the dim light, he could see the faint outline of Ryosuke sleeping, his head tilted to the side a bit.
“That was fast.”
He commented with a raised eyebrow. Not that anyone could see it. A chuckle came from beyond Ryosuke.
“I think that is our cue to stop talking and start sleeping. Good night, Yuma-kun. Just leave the light on.”
Mumbling his reply, he curled around his bolster and snuggled into his pillow, drifting to slumber.
Oh yes, he definitely had some interesting stories to share with his family when he got back to Japan.
