The combined effects of haze, unhealthy anime and general despondency

Okay. Thank goodness promos are over. The haze is killing me and I need something to counteract the influence of trashy (but oh so addictive!) anime that I have been overdosing myself on. House of Leaves, Mark R. Danielewski. I'm not good at summaries, so the best I can come up with is that it is a glorious mind-fuck. I'll lend it to you next time I pop over.

Also I don't know if you've read any Kazuo Ishiguro? Remains of the Day is one of my favourite books. This one's pretty well-known, though, so you've probably read it, but if not it is available in pretty much every library. Hongyu's Arthur Miller also wrote The Crucible, which I really liked, a play about McCarthyism that uses the Salem Witch Trials as a parable. Power of mass hysteria, redemption, all that grand stuff.

You might want to check out The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold. I actually didn't really like this one so much, but I got through it, and while I didn't like it, I recognise that it is beautifully written. I think I didn't like it because I lack any sort of patience whatsoever, and the book needs it, I think. Or maybe I'm just making excuses and it, while beautifully written, is probably just damn boring. I can also lend you this one, I'd like ( ... )

murakami is readable - to me, that is. i didn't particularly UNDERSTAND kafka on the shore, but it was a pleasant read all the same.
the republic of trees was pretty fascinating. had shades of lord of the flies.
