So as some of you may know, since last September I have been running my own business (CashDuck.com) which has been doing quite well. (Basically what it is is that I find surveys and trial offers through ad agencies, people complete them, I get paid and give the person who did the survey most of the money.) It has been my prediction since the ( Read more... )

I know giving up something you built from scratch and have worked so hard on is going to suck, but it really sounds like it's for the best. I'm massively impressed by how well you were able to do with it. At least you'll have lots of experience for the next business ides you come up with and have tucked away a fair amount to boot. By the way, I've seen Cash Duck ads on multiple webcomic sites I read - very cool, and a little surreal. Good luck in breaking the news to your ducklings.

I think you are approaching this really well, and you should be really proud of yourself for being able to establish a business and actually have it make profit, you should also be proud of the fact that you realize when things aren't going to improve and when it is time to move on to something else. I'm sure that closing this is only going to lead to you making a better business in the future and you will look back on this as a great learning experience. Good luck.

Ditto the above. I think you're really showing true entrepreneurial spirit. You've learned a lot from an opportunity, and through no fault of your own, that industry is in serious trouble. I definitely think cashing in your chips while you're ahead and looking for the next thing is a smart and healthy move.

My grandfather and father ran a small business, and I worked there until I was in college. In the late 80s, it was clear to me that the industry was on its last legs, and I ran away like my feet were on fire and my ass was catching. Sure enough, my Dad stayed in the business way, way, way past the time it was even remotely salvageable, and while it didn't kill him, it sure helped hold the knife.

Yes, what they said.

I can honestly say that I can look at you and think that you have done more cool things since college than I have. :) I truly feel like I'm right back in the same position I was in at the end of Sophomore year, but you have gained experiences that will make you much more marketable. Yes, some people will be disappointed when you close up shop, but if you can recommend something similar before you go, then that might lessen the blow for some. For others, their life will go on, much like ours did when Presti's became Gilly's and then changed their hours. :) Y'know? You already know that you learned a lot, and you're cognizant enough to recognize when it's time to close up shop and take that experience/ knowledge on to bigger and better things. 'You done good.' :) Good luck with business school. :)

On another note, I'm moving away from Columbus again at the end of September, and we never did get together for lunch. :p Are you interested in trying to do that sometime?
