Oh, The Places You'll Go (Chicago Edition)

Jun 09, 2008 08:33

This Thursday, I am off to Chicago for several days. And this is where I need your help. What must I do? What (and where) must I eat?

My meager list thus far:
  • National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen
  • Lincoln Park Zoo
  • Visit Wrigley Field (alas, no Cubs games while I'm in town!)

Chicago has some of the best peep shows in all of the country. Wait, did I say peep shows? I meant to say pizza. Pizza Uno or, as someone else mentioned, Giordano's. Also, check out lower wacker drive.

Pizza really requires a comparison-- Giordano's for the perfect deep dish, Gino's East for the perfect deep dish in cornmeal crust form, and some place that serves the dome style pizza (cooked in a bowl then dumped out on your plate.) If you go to Lincoln Park Zoo (or Museum of Science and Industry for that matter) you have to spend the money on one of the wax sculptures from a machine-- much cooler than those penny printers-- you can get a bust of Lincoln, but sorry, no flamingos!
As for museums, I have to also get a plug in for the Museum of Contemporary Art-- small and unpretentious with a pretty relaxing view of a small park below, located near Water Tower Place. And if you do go to the Museum of Science and Industry, you might as well walk a few blocks west and visit Robie House, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed house on the campus of University of Chicago.
