So I love the story to start with, and well I walked in to the movie with no real expectation

It was indeed a great film. The leads managed to communicate the extreme poignancy of their situation brilliantly -- I cried. (Ok, I'm a sucker for pathos, so that's not exactly a surprise.)

Who's to say it won't win awards? Still plenty of time for such
