DW 4x13 Journey's End

I'm still processing this episode, so I don't have a review or even a reaction yet. I think I'll be OK with everything once the fic starts pouring in (and you just know that it will!) but a thought just occurred to me that sent my world spinning on its axis ...

Oh, the fic's already started pouring in! Just check time_and_chips ;) Or go straight to dark_aegis or sc_angel72 or my LJ for Rose/humanDoctor fic :) And to kae_nine's for a lovely, angsty drabble from the other Doctor's POV.

A lot of people seem to be really unhappy with the episode - I see comments such as Rose only getting a 'copy' of the Doctor, or the 'real Doctor' palming her off on the clone, or even how it's a cop-out ending for Rose meaning that she hasn't had to grow and learn (um, why does 'growth' have to imply being alone? Why can't women with partners be equally independent and kickarse?). I really liked it, though*. Among other things, because it was the only way Rose and the Doctor were ever going to be together in canon. It'll take a while, but I do see them being happy together. :) I just feel sorry for the TimeLordDoctor, but then that's DW all over. He's alone again, yes - but we know he'll find another companion soon enough.

Ditto to everything you said. (Hey, Wendy, we actually agree on an episode! LOL.) I'm quite horrified by Donna's exit -- and can't figure out why it had to be this way instead of another type of fix -- but I'm going to imagine Donna (now with a mother who supports and encourages her instead of tearing her down) growing up and becoming brilliant all over again, on her own. Because otherwise it's just too heartbreaking to comprehend

I didn't much like what happened to Donna either. It felt clumsy and unnecessary, and very hackneyed - just how many times have we seen the mindwipe plot device over the decades on different shows? Yawn. It also felt like angst for angst's sake, which is never a good choice. Oh, and I liked the new Donna so much more than the old one we met in the Christmas episode, and the thought that we might have to endure the old version of her again in any upcoming 'specials' fills me with...well...unenthusiasm, to say the least.
