Years ago, after they had first entered Narnia, but before they were crowned, Lucy and Susan had sworn never to tell Edmund what Aslan had done for him. Susan thought it would be too much for him to bear and Lucy had reluctantly agreed. Even without that knowledge, Edmund felt guilty enough to carry out most of the tasks of running a kingdom.

However, he was taking his newly gained title as “The Just” a bit too seriously. With the High King away dealing with the Giants in the North, Edmund had taken on Peter’s usually duty of hearing any grievances of their subjects, no matter how trivial (and some were extremely so), in addition to his own. Whenever his sisters tried to convince him to let them help, he only smiled and said he liked keeping busy - which was perfectly acceptable, but he was in imminent danger of becoming the stuffiest and dullest being in the realm.

He mostly spent his days now dealing with mounds of never-ending paperwork. He hardly ever went out anymore and was even beginning to loose his color. He rarely smiled, and laughed even less. Why just the other day, Susan had been reading the latest missive from the good King Lune detailing the latest mishaps of his son, and Edmund had practically thrown the two of them out of the library because their “inane chatter was going to give him a headache.”

It was obvious that something drastic needed to be done, and quickly.

Which was why they felt perfectly justified placing frogs in his bed.
