YAY for you guys! I've been a huge fan of Mercedes Lackey since junior high. I would have suggested starting with Arrows, rather than The Last Herald-Mage, but that works. Next read Arrows (trilogy), then Oathbound and Oathbreakers, then By the Sword, then Winds (trilogy), then Storms (trilogy). Then you can read the Owl trilogy, or skip back and read Black, White & Silver Gryphon, the Exiles pair, Take a Thief, and Brightly Burning. Am I forgetting any? Well, there are also two anthologies which are very good.

LOVE those books. In case you couldn't tell. ^__^ Don't let me or the sheer volume of books she's written scare you off.

I'd also recommend her Diana Tregarde books, the Fairy Godmother volumes, the Joust series, the Elementals books... everything she's ever written, really. But start with Valdemar. ^_~
