Nothing like a rainy afternoon to do an overdue update, right? It's mostly been business as usual around here, just incredibly busy.
* I finally decided - and announced to my family - that I did not wish to travel in the month of December, and therefore would not be flying to Montana for Christmas. This is a huge break with tradition, and they were stunned and not very happy. But it is what it is. (The most likely scenario would mean we'd be flying to MT *on* my 40th birthday, and I am frankly just not up for - let's be honest here - being stranded with a million other cranky people in an airport due to a blizzard on my birthday.) So we are staying put for the holidays this year, and so far they have not made me feel *too* guilty. :) And I think I may throw myself a birthday party - so if you'll be in town for the weekend before Christmas, you can come hang out at our house!
* October has been super busy, especially with regards to ferrying my child to her many activities and events. Soccer is now over (whew!), we're about halfway through the schedule of Nutcracker rehearsals, and piano lessons are proceeding brilliantly!
* Work has also been crazy, with my schedule changing all the time. It will get crazier starting on Wednesday, when I will be covering for a co-worker on vacation for the following 2 1/2 weeks, meaning I'll work as many of the available hours as I possibly can. And by the time she is back, the paperwork may have gone through the grinder at city hall, and I will officially start working more hours. I think my part-time 20-hours-a-week thing might really be a thing of the past, now...... But that means more *reference* and *local history* and fun stuff like that, so I am certainly not complaining. Bring on the new challenges, please! :)
* I am obsessed with the political process and the weather right now. Neither of these is especially new, though. But reading/watching/looking for ALL TEH THINGS on those topics has taken a lot of my time lately. :)
* And I'm reading a lot (of course) - recent 5-star reads include Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl and Rae Carson's The Crown of Embers (which is book 2 of a trilogy) and I just started a new book called Crewel, by Gennifer Albin, which so far reminds me of The Giver crossed with a bit of the Hunger Games (specifically, parts involving Cinna and President Snow).
Okay, back to your regularly-unscheduled Hurricane Day - the wind is just starting to pick up here. :)
