I agree with that, but chose to leave it out as the essay is based on my condemnation of the death penalty. The timing of this particular example is atrocious, but even if it had been done on a neutral day it would still be wrong, IMHO.

When I read the news about Saddam, two things came to my mind. I was at first sad that we chose to kill him (yes, even though it was the Iraqi government who ordered the execution, we were the ones behind the decision). I was then upset and scared to think what backlash would come of his killing.
I was shocked to hear the news this morning, an eye for an eye? How are we/they supposed to learn from that? It sounds like we haven't changed much since, what medieval times? The Stone Age? Ever? *Grrr* :'(
Why? What's the agenda behind this all? Who made this happen? What will happen now?
The death penalty also says we think there are times when it's correct to kill one's enemies. If we think so, then who are we to complain when others kill their enemies, that is, us?
The fact that everybody thinks they are in the right enables us to justify many things.
