I would go for a double... some people will definitely get screwed over with a shitty roommate, but I think it's worth it just for the experience. It makes freshman year more interesting. And worst-case scenario, you can just make some noise to the administration and they'll rearrange your housing.
yay! I think you should go for a roommate because, as Rahulio said, it's definitly worth the experience. Think of it this way...you might as well try it freshman year, and if you don't like it very much then you can get a single the next three years. But, if you never try it, you could be missing out on one of the best experiences of your life. You never know...but it seems like a good idea to try all of the options first.
