All my recordings of 1812 are complete; I don't know of any that skip the quiet, somber, early parts. I could imagine that some live performances edit it out, though, thinking it's not "exciting" enough, and focus on the finale only. Oh, p'shaw! It's all glorious, and it's all there for a reason. Tchaikovsky did nothing just for the helluvit!
