You didn't break my heart! :-) I think maybe Cassie dreaming that Rob was all those things is even better than him actually doing them. Great story.

Thank you. I hoped not to break any hearts, and the story played along. :D

Oh, I will be posting author's notes, kind of like director's commentary, in the next day or two if you're curious about how this story ended up this way. With possible bonus material. ;)

Ok, so this fic <3 <3 It’s been such a satisfying read, and I feel kind of inarticulate about it, probably because I looooove it so much. I was thoroughly enjoying the story told by Cassie’s perspective, loving that you found a way to made them work together and reconnect, first professionally and then emotionally… There are so many lovely details and moments filled with delicious tension (regarding part 3, I find the end particularly perfect, and also the scene when she is trying to make something for dinner and he tells her that she is not listening and they just look at each other for the briefest moment). But then you pulled off that coda and that twist, and I am totally in love with the idea of Cassie almost dying and dreaming everything about the safe house. It seems so fitting. And I think it gives the story a… IDK, gravity, bittersweet quality that feels so true to these characters. I thought Cassie asking for Rob after being shot was the sweetest thing and I love how this led to her confession. The whole ending is also very ( ... )

Thank you so much. I almost don't know what to say except to repeat thank you over and over again. Especially since you picked up on some one my absolute favorite things about this fic, like the ending of Part 3 and the twist and the little girl in the dream. :D I love Rob and Cassie so much I needed to fix them up just a little bit.

I really enjoyed writing mystery. I need to practice the actual mystery part, but the tone I found very gratifying. thank you for your encouragement there.

I feel like I can't thank you enough. <3 <3 <3

This has been such a lovely and surprising story. The dream with the little curly-haired girl really squeezed my heart <3

Whoa I really wasn't expecting it to be a dream! Interesting. I'll be very interested to read the author's notes to find out more on that!

I think you have such a great grasp on Tana's tone and yes, a real knack for the mystery genre in general! And yay for them finding some peace and a possible future maybe even. ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed my twist.

Thank you so much. I have really enjoyed playing with the mystery genre. I'm got to work on how to plot out the actual mystery part and I'd be all set. (Bet there's a book on that somewhere. ;)

Wow! That twist REALLY surprised me. But in a good way. The way it brought it right back to where we'd left them. And him still a mess and her so confused. It so very them to finally admit things on a deathbed and have no clue where to take it when she lived. Gah! Why must they be so difficult?

Her steady breathing was still the thing that calmed my like nothing else. I could hardly believe I’d been able to go so long without that particular rhythm.

As I feel back into the dream by the shore, I glanced around over the bobbing head of the girl as she toddled towards her mother. Cassie grinned back at me, hair whipping into her face and laughing she was so happy. I knew it was a dream. A haze of something not quite real filled that place. A peace I couldn’t capture in the real world. Seeing Cassie, it didn’t matter. It was worth that smile.

Plus this. Just all of it. So gorgeous.

Excellent work on the whole thing, hon! I love that we've got Cassie/Rob fic in our lives now. :D

Thank you so much. *hugs* I'm glad the twist worked for you. Can you imagine anything worse that confessing your love for someone and then not dying? ugh!

Seriously! Undying love confessions should always be promptly followed by death. *nods* ;)
