Refusing to Nurse

HELP! Connor is refusing to nurse ever since we arrived at 9:30 this morning. I am so uncomfortable and in pain and he wants no part of it. He hasnt had a wet diaper all day and I'm concerned. Could it be the change in environment? Could he be self weaning just all of a sudden? I forgot my pump so now I feel like I have to go buy one because I can' ( Read more... )

Can you give him some tylenol and wait 20-30 minutes to see if that kicks in and he feels like nursing? Give him a wet wash cloth to get some fluid in if you're really concerned as well. If you are really really uncomfortable you can try and hand express some if you hop in a shower, I'd take a nice warm one and try hand expressing to give yourself some relief. If that doesn't work, maybe an inexpensive hand pump for now will do the trick?

I was hoping you'd write back! :)
I gave him some tylenol and tried after 10 min but maybe I need to wait longer. Earlier today I took a hot shower and expressed some by hand but I cant keep on hopping in the shower and now it hurts again. I'll try again in 15 minutes to nurse and then Im headed out to BRU to get a hand pump. Argh. Im getting so frustrated with him.

Hey! Ugh, that sucks, I have no real help but I hope he gets back into the swing of things. Can't help that it's a new place and he's feeling sick and all that. Sorry!
So how was the drive? Are you in CT now?

Drive was long and exhausting but would have been much longer and worse had we done it during the day. We're poooped but we're going to go back through the night also. Much easier on the kids too.

When I am out all day, neither of my boys would nurse much at all. New experiences, new places.... they're much more fun than nursing. Get him in a dark, quiet place for a little while and he will nurse. And don't worry! He's not weaning! He's just in a new place and not sure of things. :)

You were right! It must have been the change of environment. Next day he nursed on the right side but still refused the left and then by last night he was back on both. Phew! Bummer I had to spend $35 on a new pump for 1.5 days but I was desperate! thanks!
