they abandoned the firewire as the standard transfer type because so many PC users were whining that the "USB cable" (firewire) didn't stick into their usb port out of the box and were pissy that they needed to buy an extra usb adapter or dock to connect. They were like "why does apple use weird connectors that do the same thing." (even though fire wire is muuuuuuch faster). So apple decided "fine, we'll make the standard connection USB, and make the people who want to connect through firewire buy the accessories."

Interesting post though. :)
