Memories that Matter - or - My Thoughts on "Abyss" and Speculation SPOILERS

Nov 14, 2008 12:54

After a hiatus, since the misery of the seventh season of SV, I decided to start watching season 8. I've been kind of poky about it, since I really and truly was dubious about any kind of improvement that might have been made. ( Read more... )

I agree. We need to see the repercussions of Chloe losing that knowledge on screen. This is something - like the Sam/Ruby situation on Supernatural right now (not sure if you watch it) - that cannot be left to "Offscreensville". There needs to be a canon answer to what Jor-El has actually done: does Chloe now have holes in her memory, where events linked to knowledge of Clark's secret are simply blank? has Jor-El rewritten the memories in some way? Does Chloe's mind try to make sense out of a jumble of disconnected memories and create a new sense of a memory? What does she still know (if anything) about Oliver and the rest of the League? We need at least one scene in the next episode or two where someone asks her about something - anything - in the past where Chloe used to know what really happened because Clark's powers were involved somehow and Chloe recalls the memory in some way that is different from what actually happened (or different from a cover story for it). If this is never answered on screen, the fandom will once again ( ... )

I think it's essential we do see it - especially since the whole episode focused around Chloe losing her memories. Unfortunately, this is Smallville, and I can just imagine Chloe saying something like..
"Come on, Clark...did you think I'd forget EVERYTHHING..." or have her memory jumpstart because of her plot device meteor power. They really do fail as writers on SV sometimes, truly.

I really like your review and I'm glad to see that there are more people who aren't pissed about Clark's actions. Honestly though? I think that she'll get her memories back eventually.

Overall, I am impressed that the loss of so many people on the show did sort of get mentioned, although I'd have liked to see Chloe a bit more upset that she couldn't remember her father, or Lois, but you know, that's just me

I think that Lois should've been there! I would've liked a Chlo-Lo memory ... I mean, Clark's more important Jimmy but Lois has been there even longer than Clark!

He's now made a decision to keep her from further harm, and that's not asshole behavior at all - it's selfless. Clark has taken away the last person he has that knew - and understood him.

Exactly! He did himself a lot of harm ... I wanted to give Clark a hug at the Fortress scene. He wanted Chloe to have a normal life, and his heart really was in the right place.

I did like the Clark & Jor-El scenes. The Fortress was cool in this episode.
