Strange as thought like these circulate in my head these days...
I think that its important to understand your place in the world and your parent's relationship to you. These things are still strange to me, considering I'm what a decade older than you? So don't feel bad if you don't have the answers yet.
From my own perspective I realized somewhere that my parents would be happy and proud of me no matter what I do as long as I'm trying my hardest. Nothing says that cause yer folks want you to be an MD that you have to be, and as long as you succeed I don't know that they will care overmuch.
I think that sticking to your guns as a bleeding heart liberal is a good thing. Wash away predjudice in life with knowledge, bias with respect, and hatred with compassion. These things make the difference one day at a time, one person at a time.
Good luck and remember, your parents are as freaked out about your life as you are. At least I know mine are...
