Dear show,
How is it you can be meh one week and abso-freakin-lutely amazing the next?
Oh, wait... it all depends on the ass-kicking Helen to Will ratio.
First off, what a highly entertaining episode. It reminded me (premise-wise) a bit of bank job, but hey, Helen kicking ass, never going down badly in my books. (Also, Will and Henry talking about how she'd be okay kicking-ass 'in leather' cut to Magnus in a lovely, demure, wrap-dress and wedge sandals? Awesome.)
Everyone meeting/hitting on Helen? Hilarious. Particularly given her complete disinterest. (But hey, she's had what, 274 years worth of propositions to turn down? There's a lot of competition.) Canadian guy? $50,000 a year - Canadian. And therefore not worth it? So sad. (Also, referencing the Blue Jays? Yay Canadian TV!) The sparring between the lead robber and Helen - perfect. I love their attitudes and doublespeak.
And then Helen kicks ass, which is always awesome. (Also, I want a 'Doctor of Ass-Kicking' icon SO BADLY.) The fact they showed her hurting at times was good, her ingenuity was awesome, and the little comedic moments ('I just bought that!' and 'It's not a bad deal.' were perfect.) I also loved lemur-girl, the entire way through. Lemurs! And I was very glad she was actually a scientist, and not a fake, like CIA guy. And I didn't guess that the 'Russian' was Feliz, and I love that actor, and I loved at the end how much he loved everything that had happened. (He was behaving how I was, just watching, by myself. Ha!)
And then the end... When they were walking and talking there, I was like, 'Okay, show, throwing in a bit of lesbian sub-text, good for you' and then the show blew 'sub-text' out of the water. Ahaha! I liked it. It felt natural. (And hey, Helen, probably time for another one of your weekends, yes yes?). I think it was nicely done. Also, after 274 years or whatever, you'd better be open to exploring other things... I'm sure her notions of sexuality are a bit fluid.
I suppose I should talk about the B-plot. But it was mostly Will. I have to say, I like Abby. I loved her in 'Uprising' because she was using her connections and being competent, and using her past boyfriends or whatever, and she was great. And I liked her here because she called Will on his BS. And when he tried to be all like, 'It wasn't personal' and she called him on that, yeah. Go Abby!
Also, isn't Abby now like in charge of the X-files, Sanctuary style? I am intrigued to see how it all plays out, though, given the Sanctuary is now rogue.
