The deer were definitely not what Bryn had been expecting. They were smaller, faster, and oh, right, they had fangs or something.
It had thrown her a loop, to say the least. The day before she'd shifted just to stretch her legs, to regain her sense of balance. After everything that had happened, she had needed to do something to feel more herself. A whole afternoon and evening she had spent in the woods, exploring and simply enjoying herself.
When the light started filtering through the trees the next morning, she'd awoken to find herself upwind of two bucks. They hadn't noticed her, hidden among the brush as she'd been, and it was for that reason that she'd been able to surprise them. They were quicker than she'd expected, and she found she welcomed the challenge, chasing one between the trees. Within moments, Bryn felt close enough to leap and pounce on it. Her jaws opened and went to its neck, and in a quick twist, she broke it. The deer fell to the ground dead, and Bryn stood over it with adrenaline rushing through her veins.
It didn't occur to her how strange it was that such an activity made her feel more herself than she had the last few days. Someone might have expected that having the opportunity to wander around safely in her human form would have been welcome, but she just wasn't quite there yet.
For a moment, Bryn was tempted to eat the deer then and there, but she remembered that Joe had said he'd show her how to cook it if she brought one to him. Glad that she wasn't all that far from her clothes, Bryn grasped the leg of the animal in her teeth and dragged it over to her things. She took some time to shift back, get cleaned up and dressed, but soon enough Bryn was dragging the deer out of the woods and to the outside door of the Keep's kitchens.
"Hello?" she called, pushing the door open.
