So, I hear you like music, Ezra.faun_tumnusOctober 20 2011, 15:50:47 UTC
Tumnus had been rather delighted to hear the request for musicians and dancers, particularly being as how he was well versed in the dances they were teaching. It was one of the few times that the faun felt completely at ease in the Keep and not overwhelmed by the things around him; which was how he felt a good part of the time.
He plays his flute in time with the other musicians, hoof tapping in time with the beat. Although, in truth, he is moving around quite a lot with the music as well.
As taken as he is by the tune, however, he does not miss the arrival of Ezra; nor how he seems to be rather taken by the music itself. During a break in the song he glances at the boy, ears flicking in interest.

Ezra is jerked out of his reverie by the sound of the faun's voice. Oh, right. There were other people here. His eyes trail upwards to meet Tumnus's, a bit surprised at seeing a faun (it had been a while since he last saw one, after all), but probably more surprised at just being spoken to.
And then he sees the flute in his hands, and realizes that he's one of musicians and nods eagerly. "Yeah. Of course I am. You're-- it's really good."
Tumnus takes in the appearance of the lad while the lad in turn looks him pointedly up and down. At least this time, it appear that he might be fae of some sort, which Tumnus was far more accustomed to.
The lad's gaze alights on his pan pipes and he brightens considerably, earning him a bright smile from the faun at the praise.
"I am glad to hear so, and my many thanks! I play because I enjoy it and it brings pleasure to others, so I am most pleased."
Ezra scrambles to his feet, obviously brimming with excitement. When was the last time he got to talk with a musician? Too long, apparently, judging by the way he began to babble.
"You can tell you enjoy it, you can hear it in the music. I haven't met someone so talented in a long time, I mean, I don't know what your species's lifespan is like, but it's probably long, so you've probably been practising a long time, right? It shows. You're really good." He repeats the last for good measure.
Tumnus has not often shared the company of one that is do clearly enamored with music and it delights the faun. His smile is warm and welcoming as Ezra goes off about the music, finally nodding.
"I've been playing since I was old enough to speak, if not before," he says with a chuckle. "The pan pipes are almost inclusive in the history of fauns, from as near as any history I can tell. We live for many centuries, so long as there is no war or sickness, and I am just over two myself, so plenty of practice on my own part, yes."
He trails off and moves for a proper introduction, "My name is Tumnus."
Over two centuries. It's been a long time since Ezra's met someone of a proper age, humans were just so... young. With that in mind, Ezra will be treating Tumnus with even more respect and reverence, if that is even possible.
"I'm Ezra. Um..." He trails off, not sure how to frame the next question. "Do you play often? If you do, is it okay if I listen again? I mean. If that's not too rude."
Contrary to popular belief, Ezra does know his manners. It's just that they only come out on the rare occasion that he really, really wants something for himself.

"You are enjoying the music, I trust?"
