Across the Keep runs a rather large spider, scampering from building to building, room to room and carrying with him a decent sized branch of mistletoe. One might catch him skittering up a wall to build a web above a doorway, or stringing mistletoe up from various points on the ceiling.
He doesn't linger in any particular place for too long, save

It was cute, if a little strange. She had luckily found out how to put it to sleep already, and feeding and tickling weren't hard either. But she couldn't really tell if it was supposed to be a game or... A real pet.
It wasn't much good for cuddling.
Still, she carried it with her as she wandered the Keep, so alert for any wayward spiders that she walked past several sprigs of mistletoe without so much as noticing.

With his hair left loose and his hideous Christmas sweater donned, Xanth was on a mission to the kitchen. He'd taken notice of the new decoration, even heard what it meant, but it mattered little. What mattered was if he was lucky enough to find a pot of soup slow-cooking on the stovetop.
No one would miss one bowl, after all.
Before he reached his destination, though, he reached Kairi.
"H-Hey!" he called out, missing the mistletoe that littered the hall.

"Hello-," she spotted the sweater.
It was...
Well, it was very festive.
Determined not to be caught staring this time, Kairi deliberately looked up at Xanth's face.
"Xanth," She giggled again, "You need a hair cut."

"Y-Yeah, I-- I-I do. I'm just-- i-it's... it's warm, you, y-you know?" Then, he shook his bangs out of his eyes. "P-Pretty shaggy, th-though."

Unfortunately, the motion jostles her furry companion, and with a mechanical whirr, he yawns and declares that the sun's up.
"Oh! Sorry!"

"It-- i-it's alright," he said. "They-- they wake up p-pretty easy. M-Mine, uh, it-- s-sometimes it just-- s-starts talking, i-in the middle of the n-night."

She didn't know what else to say to that, so instead she cast around to a change of topic. She avoided Xanth's gaze and happened to glance ceiling-ward.
And spotted a sprig of green there.
"Xanth?" She stared at the plant. They weren't really under it, were they? Would it be rude to move away? Quickly, Kairi looked around for the spider.

Xanth shifted where he stood, his stance a little wider and his shoulders a little looser. If they needed to run from a dog-sized spider, he'd do what he could to keep Kairi safe.
But Joe said it wasn't dangerous.
"Do-- d-do you think he was-- t-telling the truth?"
Reply
"Would he lie?" And why? For a joke? But it wasn't like he was watching.

And then it struck Xanth exactly how distrustful he felt. Joe hadn't done anything besides be staff to make him untrustworthy, but the crew on the Elegante had never been worth trust.
Or had they? They'd only spoken truth about their worlds being gone, and they did all they could to make up for their terrible deeds. But they had still done those terrible deeds.
Xanth shook his head.
"I--I don't know. M-Maybe he-- wouldn't have. It, i-it's just a-- a th-thought."

Kairi's lips parted in surprise; Of course. Why would Xanth want to? Xanth loved her - her face flushed pink - and wouldn't want to kiss her if she didn't feel the same.
And he knew she didn't.
Was he trying to save them both some pain?
As soon as the thought came to her, Kairi wanted to at least hug him. She gripped her furby tighter as she tamped down on the impulse.
Her thumb pressed the thing's belly.
"Heeheehee! I love you! Mmmmmmwah!"
Oh.

And the furry little Furby in her arms.
He half-smiled awkwardly and looked down at the thing, gesturing vaguely towards it. "W-Well, there's, there's that... thing, t-too. But... I-I don't-- I don't think it c-counts."
