let the celebrations begin!

The last light has faded. The bonfire is lit and the fireflies are glowing merrily. The scent of wood-smoke is in the air. Three of the identical serving men have taken up instruments from the bower and have begun to play, varying between soft ballads and dancing tunes. By the fire, a large silver pail holds small, glittering crystals ( Read more... )

Approach? Why yes. Bryn could use a refill of her nectar drink. She glances over at the man (who looks something like a pirate, truth be told) and how he sways, and smiles despite herself. Someone appears to be having fun already.

"I see you've taken a hostage," she commented, feeling pleased enough to be at the party to step out of her comfort zone to speak up first.

Jack's grin is all charm.

"This one here?" He gestures to the bottle in the nook of his arm. "He just wanted to keep me company."

He smiles and gestures to her empty cup, "Would you chance to share in my unfortunate fellow?"

"I see, how lucky...for you, that he wanted to stay," she replied, somewhat awkwardly, but smiling nonetheless. Bryn might have used most of her wit with the first statement. When he offered some of the wine, she held out her cup unthinking. "Yes, thank you, that would be nice."

She paused a moment.

"I'm Bryn," she added, "I don't believe we've met before."

She would have remembered that beard and his hair, if nothing else.

The good captain puts his pomegranate down and pours the girl a generous glass of wine.

"Lucky indeed, for then by he that stays, I get to share with you," oh yes, very smooth Jack.

The grin only gets wider, "Names Captain Jack Sparrow, dove." With that he makes a sweeping bow and takes off his hat to her.

So smooth that it takes Bryn a moment to grasp what it is he's saying, and even then she's not sure if there's a compliment in there or if he's simply remarking on the situation. She gives him an uncertain smile and decides it's safer to assume he's merely making conversation.

"Captain?" she asks, taking in his clothing once more. "Are you in the military then?"

She really can't picture it, but it seems rude to ask if he's a pirate like he appears.

"Military? Oh gods no!" He makes a face like he just ate the most repulsive thing imaginable. "You'll not be finding me in the King's Navy!"

He takes a swig of the wine himself, "I find it too restrictive. Always rules, this, do that. No, lass. That's not the life I'll lead."

She doesn't need to know she might find him in the navy at some point, likely being slated for a noose around his throat,"No, not that. I'm Captain of the Black Pearl."

Apparently that's important!

Her eyes widen briefly at his reaction to her question, but it draws a wider smile to her face. Bryn takes a considering sip of her nectar drink. It was interesting for her to speak with someone who was so obviously vehement about marching to the beat of their own drum.

"That sounds quite impressive," she replied. And it was. After all, the captain of a ship was quite an important position, wasn't it? He must be terribly skilled to hold it. "If you're not in the military, though, what is it you do?"

Jack grins, preening under Bryn's attention. "It is isn't it? Impressive."

There is only the briefest of pauses before the good captain launches into theatrics," I am an acquirer of goods. Mostly. Sometimes I may well as spend those goods and begetting other goods, all for the good of my men, and myself."

He promptly turns the conversation onto the woman before him, "And you my dear? What perhaps were you before landing yourself here among this miserable lot?"

Goodness, he can certainly talk himself into a tangle. It might have gone over her head but she seemed to get the general gist. It seemed as if he was exactly as he appeared. A captain of a ship, not of the military, involved in the "acquiring" and spending of goods.

"Nothing so exciting, I assure you," Bryn replied, shaking her head slightly. She smiled, but not quite as brightly as earlier. "Just a girl living in the woods, Captain."
