"I see you've taken a hostage," she commented, feeling pleased enough to be at the party to step out of her comfort zone to speak up first.

"This one here?" He gestures to the bottle in the nook of his arm. "He just wanted to keep me company."
He smiles and gestures to her empty cup, "Would you chance to share in my unfortunate fellow?"

"I'm Bryn," she added, "I don't believe we've met before."
She would have remembered that beard and his hair, if nothing else.

"Lucky indeed, for then by he that stays, I get to share with you," oh yes, very smooth Jack.
The grin only gets wider, "Names Captain Jack Sparrow, dove." With that he makes a sweeping bow and takes off his hat to her.

"Captain?" she asks, taking in his clothing once more. "Are you in the military then?"
She really can't picture it, but it seems rude to ask if he's a pirate like he appears.

He takes a swig of the wine himself, "I find it too restrictive. Always rules, this, do that. No, lass. That's not the life I'll lead."
She doesn't need to know she might find him in the navy at some point, likely being slated for a noose around his throat,"No, not that. I'm Captain of the Black Pearl."
Apparently that's important!

"That sounds quite impressive," she replied. And it was. After all, the captain of a ship was quite an important position, wasn't it? He must be terribly skilled to hold it. "If you're not in the military, though, what is it you do?"

There is only the briefest of pauses before the good captain launches into theatrics," I am an acquirer of goods. Mostly. Sometimes I may well as spend those goods and begetting other goods, all for the good of my men, and myself."
He promptly turns the conversation onto the woman before him, "And you my dear? What perhaps were you before landing yourself here among this miserable lot?"

"Nothing so exciting, I assure you," Bryn replied, shaking her head slightly. She smiled, but not quite as brightly as earlier. "Just a girl living in the woods, Captain."
