It was amazing how much work was necessary for a small get together, but also how quickly and easily it went with the help of another person. Especially when that person happened to be on staff

There's no way Bobby'd miss a party. Especially not when he knew the person throwing it. He'd headed down to the green pretty much as soon as he'd read the note in the journal, definitely eager to get to know people better.
He was drawn to the food and drink table almost immediately, investigating the colorful cupcakes and the bowl of punch. And then, because he couldn't help himself, he made a medium sized ice sculpture - a mini version of the Keep - on the table next to the drinks.
Aara heads over to Bobby, admiring the sculpture and walking around the table to see it from all sides before peeking up at Bobby with a smile in her eyes.
"Do you always create things out of ice?"
'Do you always use your powers' might have been a better question, but Aara couldn't help but tease him after their fun out in the snow. It was nice, being able to jest with someone she considered a friend.
He stepped back as Aara came over to inspect the statue, smiling a bit as he did so himself. And then he laughed at her question.
"Pretty much. It's fun, and it also helps me practice my powers and their precision. Plus, it's a party! A drink table totally needs an ice sculpture."
Aara turns her attention from Bobby to the sculpture once more. It was beautiful, of that she was certain. Awe filled her, and she found she was reaching forward to touch it with one finger before she consciously thought of the idea. With a light gasp, Aara quickly draws her hand away, chancing a somewhat guilty look up at Bobby for almost touching something she would have very likely melted. She cradles her hand to her chest as if holding it there will keep her from her desire to feel the icey creation.
"Sorry. I've never seen an ice sculpture before. It's beautiful."
She smiles lightly in admiration.
"I hope it doesn't melt too quickly." The idea of that happening makes her expression fall.
His forehead crinkled slightly in confusion when she reached to touch it, only to pull away and shoot him a guilty look. She didn't have anything to be guilty over, unless she'd been planning on trying to break off a piece of it or something, but he doubted that was the case. But his confusion faded a bit at her comment, and he smiled.
"Thank you! And you can touch it, if you want. It won't do any damage, not unless you like, try to push it over, or something."
He looked back over at the sculpture, tilting his head slightly.
"It shouldn't. It's far enough from the fire that it should be okay anyway, but it doesn't take too much effort for me to check on it and keep it cold."
Smiling, Aara lifts a finger to lightly touch the sculpture after permission was given. It was cold, and her expression lights up. "It doesn't look like ice. It looks like glass." She pulls her finger away, slowly, the smile never leaving her face.
"It would be wonderful to be able to do what you do."
Bobby smiled brightly at that. "Thanks! That's what I was going for. If I had some kind of dye or something, I would've added colors, but I didn't want to steal from the punch just to make the sculpture look prettier."
He nodded at her comment. He hadn't always felt that it was wonderful, even though he'd loved his powers for a really long time. But he wouldn't trade them for anything.
Glancing over to the bowl of punch, Aara grins. She bet it would have looked pretty, yes, but could see it may not have been the best thing to do at a party someone else put together.
"It is good, to like your abilities. It is a necessary part of life. Who you are."
Glancing back to the punch bowl, Aara asks, "Would you like some? Punch? Or something else, maybe?"
"My thoughts exactly. You would've liked the school I went to, I think."
He grinned a bit, slightly teasing. "Oh, man, I'm totally slacking on my guy duties. I'm supposed to be the one offering you punch. But yes! I would like some. Can I get you some, too?"
"...School?" She pauses, confusion plain on her face. "Where is that?"
Then she is confused once again, but he is grinning and there is that teasing light to his eyes, so she smiles through her confusion. "Duties?" She knew all about duties. She had a great many at the Keep, after all. "Wha--but--" And now she's completely blown away, so flabbergasted she doesn't quite know how to respond. She is the one who usually brings others food and drink.
Oh. Another person who didn't know what school was.
"It's, uh. A place where children go to learn things that will help them succeed in life when they get older, and just general skills and knowledge that the community believes are important. It's taught by adults who are really knowledgeable on the subject. My school was unique, though, in that we also learned how to use and control our abilities."
He was surprised at her surprise to his comment, but then realized, duh, she was from another world.
"No worries, Aara, I've got it. In my world, guys are supposed to get the drinks for pretty girls they're hanging out with at a party." He smiled at her, then grabbed two cups, filled them with punch, and offered her one.
Aara listens intently, a small frown tugging the corners of her lips. "Oh. Then it would be useful for angha to have this school. When an angha woman comes of age... it is almost guarenteed she will die. We have lost our ways. Knowlege of our abilities." Sad eyes lift to meet Bobby's. "I should not be alive today." Her tone was raw as she said it.
Her worries ease and slowly melt away at Bobby's smile. She doesn't need to dwell on such things here. Then Bobby uses the word 'pretty' and all thought stops entirely. Aara simply stares, a deep blush crossing over her cheeks like wildfire, and before she realizes it Bobby is already back with her drink, which she accepts with slightly trembling hands.
Pretty?
She had certainly never been considered attractive before, but where she was from, people didn't have pale skin, eyes, and hair. Here, many people did, so maybe he really did think--she cut that line of thought off, heart in her throat as she smiles down into her cup.
"Thank you..."Then she tastes a sip, and sweet, wonderful

That stopped him in his tracks. He had to keep himself from just kind of repeating everything she'd said right there, only in the form of a question, because, yeah, that wasn't going to help at all.
"I'm sorry. That's one of the reasons my school exists. Aside from being a safe place for people like us, where no one will be feared or judged, it's there to help people understand their abilities. So they don't cause harm to themselves, or others."
He hesitated, then added softly, "I'm really glad you are."
But then the conversation turned to drinks, and Bobby was only too happy to retrieve punch for the both of them. He smiled brightly at her when she took the punch he offered, and waved off her thanks.
"No problem! I should've thought to offer it first." Then he chuckled at her delight in the punch. "You're right, it does. I wonder who made it?
Aara shakes her head. "It has been the way of my people for so long, it is as though we are used to it, now. That is what one should feel sorry over."
She listens attentively. "Feared or... judged?" There's something vulnerable and raw about Aara's expression at that. She frowns, thoughts far away. "I think I would like such a place. I think my clan would benefit from such ideals, as well." Aara glances away, expression suddenly closed off. Remembering makes it hard to breathe
( ... )
"I'm sorry for your people, then. Knowledge like that should never be lost."
He shifted closer to her at the change in her expression, hesitantly resting his hand on her arm in an attempt at comforting. "For what it's worth, they'd love you there. A dragon? The kids would never leave you alone."
Bobby smiled at her thank you. "You're welcome. It's only the truth, though."
And then he chuckled when she asked him if he enjoyed social gatherings. "Is it obvious that I like them? I like meeting people, and just being around them."
She laughs, shaking her head a little even though she secretly yearns for something like that to be the case. A place where she would be accepted. Loved. Adored by children.
Another small smile finds her lips. "Well. I'm glad you're here too." Especially in the off chance there was ever any question whether he would live or die in some past experience, also.
Aara nods somewhat solemnly. "I can tell you enjoy them. You seem to be the person who lights up on such occasions, and in return brings light to those around him."
