It was amazing how much work was necessary for a small get together, but also how quickly and easily it went with the help of another person. Especially when that person happened to be on staff

Malkus doesn't seem to understand the proper way to enter into a party or gathering of any sort, so resorts to what he normally tries to do. Silently and cautiously shambling up like a ghost may not let the doctor come off as the most approachable person but he doesn't seem to realize that it's quite alright for him to be here! He DID have a conversation with Miss Bryn before, and this WAS meant to be a pleasant occasion.
These things never get easier and it just seems like Malkus is doomed to be a shy and excitable birdman forever.
He's here, though, and is over by the cupcakes. Studying and investigating the curious treats before silently taking one.
"They're really quite good," Bryn said, having come back to the table to retrieve a cupcake for herself. "I suggest the chocolate ones, but I'm biased," she added sheepishly.
"I don't think we've ever met in person before but...you're Malkus, aren't you?" she asked tentatively.
She remembers him! This makes things much less awkward to the doctor, who's finally starting to relax. "A-Are they?" Malkus said, slowly turning his head towards Bryn. "I'll certainly try one, then... But are they hiding anything is what I'm mainly trying to determine. You know, like foods from previous gatherings?"
Even if they were, Malkus would have probably tried one of each.
"Y-Yes, I'm the same Malkus from before! And you're Miss Bryn? It's a pleasure to meet you in person!"
"Oh! Well, I don't know how they did what they did that last time but I promise you I baked these myself. As far as I can tell they're as normal as they should be," Bryn replied, picking one of them up and taking a bite to prove it. Malkus certainly wasn't precisely as she expected, but he seemed fairly pleasant to be around thus far.
"It's really nice to see you face to face finally," she added. "I'm sorry it's taken so long for us to get to this point."
Malkus lifted his mask just enough to take a bite of his food, once he saw that Bryn trusted this keep enough to not think that magic would somehow sink into the food. D'oh god, it's not often that someone like Malkus gets a taste of something this sweet. He may be somewhat familiar with herb mixes and salves, but had no idea what kind of creations you can make with different foods. After cramming the rest of the cupcake into his mouth, he quickly lowered the mask.
"Mmgh, yegh-e-er yesh-... Yes, I suppose I ought to be just as sorry for that. But at least we don't have to be sorry anymore!"
The doctor goes into a polite bow, brushing a few crumbs off of his gloves.
"This is all rather pleasant. Is there a reason for such an occasion?"
Bryn bends her knees in a brief curtsy to his bow. It still amused her how many times she actually had call to do so, considering she'd been taught growing up but had never had the opportunity to do so.
"Precisely!" she said, beaming at him as she watched him attempt to eat the cupcake around his mask. How awkward that must bet for him...
"And oh, no reason," she said with a light shrug. "I thought it might be nice to get everyone together to enjoy themselves outside before winter sets in."
"Oh, well it certainly is nice. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves so far, so I'd say this was a success! I admit I have not really ever been invited to such occasions back where I'm from. Parties were usually reserved for members of nobility or rather fancy lords."
The doctor reached for another cupcake before he was even finished with the first one.
"I hope your stay at this keep has been at least peaceful?"
"Oh goodness, I think I know somewhat of the parties you've spoken up. For what it's worth, I believe most of them are rather dull. Far better to be at a party with friends and family than those arranged around class and wealth," Bryn said. She certainly didn't miss the stuffy social events her parents dragged them to, or held themselves, in which it was all about being seen and making connections than enjoying oneself.
"It's been rather lovely for me so far, however. I've managed to keep out of trouble and keep myself occupied," she replied with a brighter smile. "And yourself?"
"That is true, Miss. I suppose I ought to count myself lucky enough to avoid some of the duller activities that come with wealth." he said with a slight laugh. Malkus would still have enjoyed perhaps having at least a taste of the high life, though. Being a plague doctor wasn't exactly the best paying job for the birdman.
"I'm glad you've been having a nice time, then. I- er-... Well, aside from a few upsets-" Like dying and being mauled "I've enjoyed my stay here, too."
Bryn winced immediately at the word "miss" though she tried to hide it as best she could.
"Oh, please, you don't need to call me that. If we're friends you must call me Bryn," she said with a warm smile. "And I'm sorry to hear there have been upsets but perhaps now that they're past things will be smooth sailing for you."
He's clearly not used to casually using names like that, but he'll work on it.
"Yes! I hope so, too! I've got a feeling that things will be better from now on. I'm starting to get a sense of what I should avoid around here, and as long as I avoid the forest for the most part, I can't imagine much else to be cautious of."
She should be able to hear the smile in his voice as he reached and shoved another cupcake under his mask.
"Oh, is the forest so dangerous?" she asked with obvious concern. She'd been in before, and it had seemed fine, though obviously unfamiliar. Unfortunately, what had transpired among the trees recently had escaped her notice.
"And thank you so much, Malkus," Bryn said with genuine appreciation. She'd gone to a lot of trouble and really couldn't hear from enough people that the baked goods had turned out alright.
"Oh my, very dangerous. Absolutely deadly without the proper precautions! The forest is full of very unusual creatures and most of them don't seem to be very keen on leaving people alone." he said, deciding it's best to leave out his attacks and eventual death.
"You're very welcome!" He said, doing another small bow. He could tell how much effort she had put into this party.
