It was amazing how much work was necessary for a small get together, but also how quickly and easily it went with the help of another person. Especially when that person happened to be on staff

Ironhide was a hard figure to miss at any sort of social function; huge, black, and sulking tended to stand out. As he walked up, Xanth gave him something of an awkward smile and a small wave.

"H-Hey. Um. How-- h-how're you -- y-you know -- h--holding up?"

Honestly? He'd been better. But, by that same token, he'd also been worse. Far worse. He acknowledged Xanth's wave with a nod, shifting his weight forward a little, in case he needed to crouch to speak with the boy.

"Fine. You doing all right?"

"Y-Yeah, I'm... I-I'm okay. P--Pretty good, a-actually." He was enjoying himself, to be perfectly honest. He'd never known Bryn, so he didn't face the grief of the new Bryn being different. This was just another party.

"Th-things have been... k-kind of quiet f-for a while, hav-- h-haven't they?"

"Good."

He let his hand drop, danging around Xanth's shoulder height. In case the boy wanted any kind of contact. It would be fine. They would be fine. Just had to focus on who was here, instead of the opposite.

But then he snorts. "You say that now. Watch. Soon there will be nothing but chaos, because you were bored."

Is that teasing? Probably.

This time, taking the teasing in stride, Xanth lets out a single laugh. "Y--Yeah. F--Fur flying, fi--fighting everywhere, wh-- who knows what."

But while this was said in jest, Xanth is waiting for the next bout of chaos. Peace never lasted more than a few months in places like these, if that much - or at least, not on the Elegante.

Even so, it would be fine. They would be fine.
