It was amazing how much work was necessary for a small get together, but also how quickly and easily it went with the help of another person. Especially when that person happened to be on staff

Yes, they had been friends once. They were still friends even if he didn't remember things as they'd been before. Bryn was determined to recapture some of what they'd had, so she was pleased to find him at the party.
Bryn was coming back for her third cupcake when she saw Nick already at the table eating one. She plucked one with blue frosting from the table and looked over at him.
"Hello Nick. I'm glad to see you joined us," she said with a bright smile. "Cupcake okay?"
He had caught the movement out of the corner of his eye, and still managed to be caught off guard when Bryn called to him. He smiled sheepishly, as he flicked the frosting from his cheek. "Ah, yes. It is very good." Once it was polished off, he picked another and headed over to her.
"Sweets are very rare where I am from, yes? We had them when I was a child."
"I hope this live up to what you used to have then," she said with a smile. "I'm not as experienced with baking as I am with cooking regular food but I think they turned out okay."
She bit into her own cupcake, and after taking that bite, lifted her hand in front of her mouth as she licked the frosting off around her lips. Well, most of it anyway.
He smiled, "Better, I think." It didn't take much to be better than the food in the Belowground, but Nick honestly meant it. Bryn had obviously done something right, since he was reaching for another one.
Noticing the frosting on her lips, Nick decided he would try to be playful. Maybe she wouldn't get mad. Either way, there's frosting being smeared on her nose.
She was grinning, pleased with his reply and that much more proud of herself when he reached out and left frosting on her nose. Bryn let out a quick, startled laugh and then, rather than wipe the frosting off her nose, wiped a dollop of frosting onto her finger and darted up to try and return the favor. Nose, chin, cheek, anything would do.

When he realizes her finger is coming toward him, he tried to retreat. But she manages to smear the frosting across his cheek and this earns her a genuine laugh for her efforts. And now it was his turn.
"I think this is war." Frosting gathered and aimed for chin.

"I'll never surrender!" she exclaimed, and tried to get his other cheek with two fingers covered in frosting.
