It was amazing how much work was necessary for a small get together, but also how quickly and easily it went with the help of another person. Especially when that person happened to be on staff

He didn't know the girl throwing the party, but he'd been drawn to it by the promise of drinks available and the potential for some good company. Not that the tavern in the stables tower didn't have plenty of drinks, but he did miss having a bunch of company sometimes. It was so different from being constantly in the Hanged Man.
And, well. Parties tended to be pretty good places to get information. Especially if there was alcohol available.
Varric had grabbed himself a drink from the table, then headed over to the bonfire to stand by it and people observe.

Varric nodded a greeting when Vie paused by him, then smiled at her question. He didn't recognize her quite yet, but her voice sounded familiar. He'll get it in a minute.
"I am. I'm a simple kind of guy. Give me a glass of wine and a good vantage point by the fire, and I'm happy." He held up his cup of wine, taking a sip. "How about you? Enjoying yourself?"
Ah. Varric knew her, now. It probably would have taken him a little longer with anyone else, but since seeing her and Hawke on Nepeta's shipping wall, Varric'd paid a little more attention to Vie's comments around the journals.
"I'm glad. And you're right, it is. Always good to take the time to have a little fun, especially in circumstances like this." Not taking the opportunity for some fun every now and then just made you more likely to get burned out and screw something up. Not to mention more likely to be unbearable company.
"You had parties like this in your world? The ones I'm more familiar with tended to be a bit more - chaotic." He smiled, almost fondly, then grimaced. "Or a lot more boring, depending on the crowd."
She grinned in return. "Well, this is more how they would start. More drink and dancing and by the end of it all, there was more than enough entertainment to go around."
Vie might recognize his voice, but whether or not he was Hawke's friend was still lost to her. A name would help. Whoever he was, the dwarf was likable.
"I'm Vie, by the way. A pleasure to meet you mister...?"
He chuckled. "That sounds similar to what I'm used to. Though I'm not sure I could ever call what some of the people there dancing."
Stumbling into things and spilling perfectly good ale, maybe. But not dancing.
"Ah. I'd say I'd forgotten my manners, but I've been assured on numerous occasions that I never had them. Varric. It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Vie." Both because her company itself was so far enjoyable, and because he'd been looking to meet her since Hawke'd told him to shut up about the matter.
Ah. She'd been right to wonder. Well aware of the slight pinkness in her cheeks at confirming who he is, Vie couldn't help but be thankful for the dark night and firelight. She hated that she blushed so easily. "A lack of manners? I think you and I might get along well then."
"That's reassuring. People cursed with manners never seem to know how to have any fun."
He grinned. "On a good day. I take it he mentioned me? I hope it wasn't anything good." He was teasing. Mostly. It would be a blow to his reputation if someone went around spreading too many good things about him.

Vie nodded. "I am, actually. This kind of party reminds me a lot of home. Not to mention it's always good to see everyone enjoying themselves."
