Who: Samantha and open
What: Samantha decided that the medieval Keep is a good place to dig
When: From dawn to nightfall today
Where: Out on the green
Long before dawn, Samantha went about setting up a restricted area that would eventually be the beginning of a temporary archaeological dig site. Using strips of cloth and twine, Samantha roped off a good ten square foot block of grass where she laid the groundwork for her ‘excavation’, using an odd assortment of objects as markers - violin bows, random utensils, etc.
After that, she went about mapping out the area on scraps of cloth she had snagged from the clothier - using strips of linen ripped from gowns or sleeping garb or useless filly undergarments, Sam has made her own ‘notebook’ of sorts. One that doesn’t broadcast anything she writes or her findings to the entire Keep at large.
Binding her ‘book’ with two pieces of wood salvaged from bonfires past - a task in and of itself - , she used leather found in both the clothier and stables to keep it together. It sat off to the side next to her journal and under a makeshift ‘tent’ constructed of more assorted clothing that had been ripped up and sewn together over the course of the past few weeks. Under the ‘tent’, there was a pile of clothing and some of Sam’s own bedding - she didn’t plan on leaving her dig site for anything.
Someone has been preparing for this.
Come dawn, Samantha has set up the basic perimeter of the area, and has meticulously laid out her tools on her own leather mat that had been in her pack when she arrived. She had the bare essentials of an archaeologist on her - a few picks, a file, a small trowel, an empty film canister she used to hold small, fragile artifacts, a pencil, several nails, and most glorious of all - a tape measure.
By noon, there is dig progress - a meticulous process with no shovel, it went slow. There is a
hole approximately four feet wide and two feet deep. Her hands are covered in blisters, and her
hat is low on her brow to keep the ‘sun’ out of her eyes.
By nightfall, the hole has expanded, but her work is nowhere near done.
In the evening, she has a small fire going by her site, and a tankard of ale to celebrate the days work.
((ooc: SO. Got clearance to do a bit of excavating here. Feel free to poke at her at any time of day during any period of her work. Just note when you talk to her so we can keep our ducks in a row! Mods, if any of this is unreasonable/unrealistic, please let me know and I’ll edit!
**EDIT 1: I forgot about snow. I spoke with the mods - it's snowing off and on, and Sam started her dig during a period of dryness!))
