I do come from a biased position, but I'd have to argue that with very little exception, everyone in politics, regardless of party, considers themselves to be elite. That's one of the main problems in our system today, in my opinion. Because of the way elections are set up in this nation (so that 80% of Congressmen face no real threat on Election Day), politicians are becoming more and more removed from the citizens they claim to represent.
But the Democrats are the most vocal about their elitism, and that is the truth.
Who doesn't consider themselves to be above others? Do we honestly believe we are all equal? Am I not more equal than the pregnant teenager or the poor Hispanic fieldworker (legal status discluded)? Aren't you?
It's a matter of the level of patronization coming from politicians. Who is more genuine? Who's a better liar? Does it matter? Shouldn't we all just be libertarians and get it over with?
Feel free to call me out on any of this; half of it's rhetoric and the other half is pure bs thoughtflow.
I disagree. In fact, I'd say that the Republicans are far more elitist, promoting policies explicitly designed to keep the rich rich (and implicitly causing the poor to stay poor). The problem with Democrats is that while many of them declare themselves to be in favor of equality and against such elitism, they often display the opposite in their actions.
However, I'm not here to tell you whether or not that's any more or less reprehensible. That's up to you.
As for your second point, I don't disagree. We're all elitists in our own way. And if that's the case, why should we hold politicians to a higher standard? Why are they supposed to be so far above these traits that we all possess?
If you ever become a libertarian, I might just have to disown you as a friend. That is not a good road to go down.
