Scoring "Work" on the Keeping Score Tally

Define "working":
If you work outside the home, why do you do so? Is the work about bringing home a paycheck more than anything else? Then you have a job -- and points earned for working belong in work & home. Is the work about personal satisfaction, growth or having fun? Then you have a career (or a paying hobby) -- and points earned for ( Read more... )

i definately have a job.
i'm very good at it but i only do it to pay the bills.

Most of my outside-the-house jobs have been all about the money. I have had a lot of fun working in bars but the money was the thing.

i loved working in bars, but don't think i could do it anymore!! my favorite was working in a live band bar, mostly cover bands and blues, but it was great

Weird. I thought I posted an answer to this already ... maybe I closed the window without hitting post.

In any case, apologies for the email notification you probably got a little while ago -- I answered another person's comment in the reply space of yours.

I think you neatly summarized what I mean by the distinction between jobs and careers. I think there are some jobs that are intended to be stepping stones toward a suitable career and those should probably be counted toward mind and soul.
