My parents were born in 1941 and 1943, and from my perspective, I don't feel this description fits them, nor does the one that describes Gen X fit me or anyone else I know born around the same era -- five brothers and a sister and a gigantic social circle included -- but it's interesting to see how generations may be impacted differently in different countries.

Have most of your family come to the US before WWII? The experience with does differs in different countries, especially between those on whose territory there were fewer battles and those that were occupied or invaded.

Thank you for sharing your reflections on this subject :) .

I am a child of the war. I believe that the biological imperative for reproduction is to produce children to annoy their parents. Just as my generation is viewed as weak and pampered by the war generation, so we get to view the next generation as weak and pampered. It's nothing personal, it is just evolution. I'm sure Zog thought his children were weak because they drew pictures on the cave walls.

You make an excellent point. I might be exaggerating, because my parents' attitude is chafing me :). I will need to talk to people more about this. Thank you!

after having done their best to ensure that we have had the safe and secure, even pampered, childhood that they were denied see us as soft, weak-willed and unreliable.
You're right, that isn't fair. You can't raise incompetent (overindulged) children and then complain that they're incompetent. You gave them no other options.

Thank you!

Yet rayaso also has a point, saying that children are often seen by the prevoius generation as not particularly competent.

It simply seems to me that the war made this discrepancy much more pronounced.
