This BBC programme on junk bonds, carbon trading and saving the Amazon rainforest was so amazing.  They talked about Aliança da Terra in Brazil, a Dutch bank offsetting emissions, and putting market value on ecological processes!!  Apparently, carbon trading in the EU generated over 3B within 2 years.  It is all possible... and my usual lament: ( Read more... )

Some think tank from Montreal proposes that Quebec should sell it's water supply overseas / across the border.  The justification is that Quebec uses less than 10%, whereas some states use over 15%... and thus this "commodity" should be taken advantage of ( Read more... )

Seeing Dali's work in real life was pretty surreal to me.  Favourite two pieces were probably Dali's "Soft Construction with Boiled Beans: Premonition of Civil War" and Peter Blume's "The Eternal City."  The colour and detail for both is amazing.  So smooth.  Their ability to conceptualize those images is astounding.    Whatever you see in books or ( Read more... )

2.  Can you believe that BC & Alberta are the only provinces without endangered species laws?!?  Ridiculous considering the fact that BC is one of the most (if not #1) biodiversity rich areas.  This is what happens to politics without science, or harbouring ( Read more... )

The Canadian woods are dark and deep.  I wanted to tie a red ribbon around a tree and wander into the dense stems.  Nature means a lot of different things to different people.  The natural resources people would probably kick me as I believe that "Nature" means you don't tamper with it -- you don't extract, you don't tame, you don't try to better ( Read more... )
