AAA question

Sep 02, 2008 10:18

For those of you who have AAA -- what do you get from them that you don't get from your auto insurance?

We're looking at an out-of-state road trip in a rental car, and we're trying to figure out if signing up with AAA makes sense. Our insurance offers 24-hr roadside assistance, and we can get travel guides and maps anywhere.

Is Triple-A worth it

I had AAA for a while in PA; the primary advantages in my view were the 1-800 number for roadside assistance, followed a bit down the line by the free travel guide/map packages for long trips. I didn't bother renewing when I moved out here.

For me they are. In the last three months they have come to deal with car problems for me three times (bad luck, mostly). They are everywhere, and they come within an hour.

Oh, plus you can get in infinite number of maps and guide books for free, and they'll do some travel agency stuff for you.

Cool. Sounds like they are pretty responsive to car crises -- I guess they'd have to be, since that's their bread & butter.

What he said about calling one toll-free number instead of calling directory assistance to get the number of one or more towing/locksmith/whatever agencies, calling around, etc.

Plus, I believe that, with insurance, you pay the servicefolk up front and the insurance pays you back (when it's convenient). With AAA, there's nothing out of pocket except the flat annual fee. Of course, the more often you need it, the more valuable it becomes.

Okay, thanks. Sounds like this is worth at least trying.
