Thank you so much for this!! I'm glad you had a great time! Koichi's fans confuse me XD even thought I get it, it's kinda scary to have sarcastic fans like that I think! And Koichi insulting them rofl ah, well, he's doing something right if he has that many following him. I think the relationship in general is very... Unique. I'm SO hyped up for the concert DVD!
I think the relationship between Koichi and his fans goes back to the time when he still had a lot of haters. Koichi used to be rather "unsympathetic" towards them and his fans quite liked the attitude (myself included). I think he just adopted this as his trademark, because the fans responded well to it. Today it's a kind of "friendly bickering", I think. ^^ I always appreciate how "blunt" Koichi tends to be, saying things other people would just stay quiet about. It's something I can respect about him.
I'm really glad that you had a good time. I have to admit that I am rather wary about the DVD release. I wasn't a very big fan of Gravity. I think this kind of concert is only really cool on location, when you're there to see all the effects. And have Koichi to adore and enjoy. ^^ Well, I'll have a look at it. Your enthusiasm somehow got me excited now. ^^" (I like Koichi's "older" works better, Mirror is <3 )
I think you really nailed this "thing" between Koichi and his fans. It's how I feel about it most of the time. ^^
Yep. I think I'm more of a realistic sort of fan, but there's something special about seeing your idol live. Koichi was so, so cute! >.< It's 80% about the casual manner he has during MCs.
And yeah, Mirror is also my favourite of his solo albums - I remember being very impressed by Velvet Rain - and the concert also has the least questionable costuming ;p
Thanks also for the comment up there. I don't know much about their earlier years aside from whatever I could get from variety programs, so it's always very interesting to hear such perspectives!
Haha, there are a lot of stories. The "only" fans used to be very disturbing, but today there aren't a lot of them anymore. Koichi sure worked his part to fight the issue. Do you know the "shut up, you uglies" story? It's hilarious.
Yeah, the costumes. Always curious. 1/2 has the biggest low lights, though. (^_^;) Mirror just gave a positive vibe. To me it felt like Koichi wasn't pressured so much to suite a certain image. He could make his own choices more freely. I liked that a lot.
He's definitely no pushover! I like his frankness as well.
I think I know what you mean about the later albums. They strike me as trying too hard to sell sexy, which maybe doesn't seem to suit Koichi because of his serious delivery. (as opposed to say someone like Kame). On the other hand, we know he likes "Western" music, and the typical image of A-pop is oversexed and trashy.
Well, to conclude I just have no idea how much input he has. ;p Stylistically Spiral is more appealing to me than Gravity tho.
I've been years never look in to livejournal, the first thing i saw was your report post at domotokyodai.
actually, I went to Yokohama Arena for two days. Koichi always amazed me every time I went to his concert. Unfortunately, I didn't lucky enough with the goods.
Ah, I'm so happy to hear from a fellow English-speaking fan!
To be honest I didn't even know where the goods area was... I was considering buying the clear file but I arrived only just before the concert started.
I'm glad to hear that you had a great time too! I think Koichi always puts on a real show rather than a Japanese idol concert.
