PART 2
‘Argh. Why am I here anyway?’ he shifted his feet as they waited in the elevator. They were visiting him, visiting Yamapi who was absent for a week. He looked at the man who was responsible for this. Koyama stood beside him with the stupid bright smile plastered on his face as more people came in the elevator. ’Stupid Koyama! How could he bribe me in a situation like this?’ Yuya thought once more, the incident this morning still fresh in his mind.

(FLASH BACK)
The doorbell rang and Yuya walked to the door rubbing his eyes. He opens it and Koyama stood there and greeted him a cheerful Ohayou. “Eh? Nani? What are you doing here, Kei-chan? It’s still early…” Yuya complained. Koyama invited himself inside, not wanting Yuya to make him go away. He wanted to talk to him. “What is it?” Yuya muttered impatiently for the boy didn’t even say his intentions. Yuya knew it was important and yet he was impatient. Koyama won’t just visit you without any reason at all, especially if he’s alone. “Oh nothing… I just wanted to visit you…” Koyama looked around, avoiding eye contact with Yuya. Yuya knew it was a lie, in fact both of them knew it was a lie but instead of accusing him, he tried to go with the flow of his actions. He figured he’d make him talk with the awkward silence and courtesy. “Oh, is that so?” he leaned to the wall, arms crossed. “Well, would you like anything to drink?” he smiled mischievously at Koyama. “Fine, fine. I wanted to talk to you.” Koyama finally gave in to Yuya’s smiles and grins. “So, what is it about?” He casually sat on the couch directly opposite of Koyama. Feeling a bit concerned of his reasons, Yuya rested his elbows on his thighs and leaned forward. “So? Are you gonna tell me or do I have to make you leave?” He’s still unaware of what Koyama wanted to talk about. “It’s about Yamapi. I-“”Whatever it is, I know nothing about it, nothing at all” he suddenly blurted out being a little too defensive.
“There you go, you’re avoiding the subject, and I know something happened but I won’t ask you about it.” Koyama was calm; he seemed like a mother trying to solve things between her kids. But the next thing he said made Yuya tense. “Uhm, I know your secret.” Yuya was about to get a magazine but instead, he did a double take. “Wh-What are you saying? What’s my secret? I don’t have any secrets.” A nervous laugh came out from Yuya’s lips. “I know that you like Yamapi.” “No, I do not.” Yuya retorted. “Yes, you do, it’s obvious, and your cheeks are bright pink right now.” “How did you know? Did you tell anyone? For how long have you known?” he said straight out, not even trying to defend himself from what Koyama said; he was defeated. “Whoa, hold your horses, too many questions, ONE, I knew ever since high school that you liked him because-” he stands up “- I’m Koyama, the super match maker and LOVE GURU!” he striked a supposedly funny pose but it didn’t work on Yuya. Instead of making him laugh or even smile a bit, he made Yuya worry more. “Did you tell anyone?” “Nope, I didn’t.” “Great! I always knew you’re such a good friend!” he patted Koyama on his shoulders as soon as he sat. The relief he was feeling was soon crushed.
“Hey, let’s go visit him. I’m sure you’re anxious of what happened to him.” Koyama blurted, smiling hopefully at Yuya. “EHH? No way!” ‘It’s gonna be too awkward between us…’ He proceeded to pull Koyama from his seat and make him go home. “Oh okay, demo, you wouldn’t want anyone to know your secret…” Looks like he didn’t need Yuya to push him away, he had his own way of making Yuya go with him: bribery. Feeling defeated, he called out to Koyama and told him to wait for him while he changed his clothes.
(END OF FLASH BACK)

Still, both boys are waiting outside Pi’s door on a Saturday morning. Yuya looked at Koyama who was furiously pressing the door bell for quite a while now. ‘What’s he doing still waiting? Obviously he’s not here…’ He was proven wrong when both of them heard a muffled “Coming!” from the other side of the thick, metal door. Judging from the tone he used, he was clearly annoyed. “Kei-chan, maybe it’s not the right time, he sounds pissed…” Yuya tugged at Koyama’s shirt giving him a concerned-about-Yamapi look, but he just shrugged it off. “Don’t worry, it’s fine. He doesn’t get mad that easily.” He told Yuya completely with no worries.
“What is it?” Yamapi glanced at Koyama and prepared to close it again. What stopped him was the fact that he saw Yuya peeking from Koyama’s back. He was too shocked to even do what he planned which gave Koyama the opportunity to invite himself in. “Ohayou, Yamashita-kun.” Yuya greeted looking at his feet as if something interesting was there. The way Yuya greeted him made him more confused. It was too formal, normally it would just be Pi or Yamapi so why the sudden formality? This made him think, and then the reason why he’s absent just sunk in and made him blush.
He couldn’t forget that kiss; he was too frustrated at himself. He quietly gestured Yuya to come in and shut the door behind him. Obviously, Koyama made himself comfortable as if it was his own house. Yuya who was sitting awkwardly beside Koyama can’t keep his eyes of his feet. The thought of having to talk with Yuya in the room made him nervous. He had an idea on what they were going to ask him and of course it was to check up on him. For God’s sake, he was absent for a damn week and who wouldn’t care?
“So, Pi, are you okay? Why were you absent?” Koyama started, breaking the silence. “Oh, uhm… nothing special, I wasn’t feeling well, that’s all.” “So, did a storm pass by here?-” Koyama stood up, inspecting the pile of things scattered on the floor “-or was it part of your sickness?” he managed to chuckle at his own comment only rewarded with a glare. “So, if that’s what you’re here for, I’m fine, I’ll be back on Monday, so would you mind?” He gestured to the door, clearly making them leave. “Ano, I brought some of your homework, some of the teachers approached me and told me to give it to you.” Yuya suddenly spoke after being to quiet. ‘Actually, the teachers didn’t approach me, they approached Kei-chan’ he said to himself handing Yamapi his homework. “Ah, Arigatou Yuya” a nervous smile plastered on his face.
“Ne~ since you’re fine, let’s go out!” Koyama suddenly piped up with an evil plan in his head. “EH?! But I have to clean my apartment first!” Koyama dragged him to his room telling him to get changed. After all the persuasion, they eventually went out. All it needed was to make Yuya ask him. (Koyama told him to ask Yamapi when Yamapi was in the bathroom) So, they went to Harajuku to shop for clothes and eat stuff that were sold on the street. Normally it would be fun, but the distance between Yuya and Yamapi was so awkward. It was a problem for the matchmaker, Koyama. He decided to leave the both of them alone as for they could talk. Talk about what exactly? He still didn’t know and chose to go on with his plan making a mental note on asking Tegoshi for what happened.
Nightfall came and the three decided to watch a movie. “So… what do you want to watch?” Yamapi asked feeling a little relieved for it was dark in the theater, he didn’t have to move or talk or anything. “Let’s watch something scary!” Seeing that Yuya’s eyes widened, Koyama smiled to himself eying Yuya. “Eh? But you know Yuya hates scary things.” Yamapi defended. “Uhm… I-I-I’m alright, I-It’s okay if we watch it.” Yuya tried to put on a smile but worry and fear was seen instead. “See, he’s fine with it so let’s go” Dragging Yamapi and Yuya, Yamapi glanced at Yuya, still worrying about him.
The movie started and the clips were rolling. The story just started and they decided to let Yuya sit in the middle (so that he won’t feel that scared). Yuya was grabbing on Kei-chan’s shirt the whole time, he was purposely moving away from Yamapi. Koyama left saying that needed to go to the washroom in the middle of the film. (This is where all the scary stuff pops out in a movie) After a while, he never came back e-mailing Yamapi that his mother called him and such. He didn’t know how to let Yuya know especially with the fact that they already felt awkward with each other already.
“Ano~ Yamashita-kun,” again, with the formality “I think something might have happened to Kei-chan” he managed to mutter. “Ah- uhm- he left already, ano~ his mother called him and yeah, well yeah. Gomen.” He apologized even if he didn’t do anything to harm the boy. “Ah, okay.” Yuya replied facing the screen, shuddering from the gore flashed in front of his eyes. Yamapi could see the fear and fright in Yuya’s eyes from the little bright lights form the movie. He knows that he’s afraid and decided to do something about it. Yamapi grabbed and squeezed Yuya’s hand as if to tell him that it was ok. He could feel his uneven breath and flustered cheeks as he turned away from Yuya only to feel Yuya’s eyes staring at him in confusion. But then, the little hand squeezed back sending waves of mixed emotions to Yamapi.
The movie was almost done when Yuya suddenly stood up and went out of the theater. Feeling the absence of heat in his hands, he followed Yuya. “Yuya! Wait up!” “Gomen, Yamashita-kun I was too scared.” He was telling the truth except that he left out the part where he couldn’t take the beating in his chest. A slight nod. “So, I guess I’ll take you home then.” Yamapi suggested after an awkward pause. “Ie, I can walk by myself…” A nervous smile. “But, it’s almost midnight and it’s dangerous. Besides, Kei-chan told me to take care of you.” A nod was all it took to tell him it was fine as they boarded the bus.
At that certain time, it was crowded full of people from their jobs who needed to get home. Yamapi and Yuya fortunately had seats, but, being the kind person that Yuya is, he eventually gave his seat to an old woman. “You okay standing? I’ll let you sit here, if you want to…” Yamapi’s worried look made Yuya blush a little as he turned away from the boy. Suddenly he felt hands on his hips, pulling him down and in an instant his behind came in contact with Yamapi’s lap. “I don’t believe you, you look so uncomfortable.” Yuya shuddered hearing these words being whispered in his ears. “Uh, I’m fine standing,” he was pulled down again when he tried standing up. “Mou, it’s okay if you sit here on my lap, I don’t mind.” Yamapi smiled. Yuya didn’t argue anymore for he knew Yamapi would just force him until he does.
Minutes passed by and they finally reached the bus stop nearest Yuya’s house. What surprised him was when they reached his house; they were greeted by Yuya’s mom, who happened to visit. “Eh? Okaa-san, why are you here? You could’ve called me to pick you up or something!” He hung his coat and turned to face his mom. “I want to surprise you! Ah, I didn’t know Yamashita-kun was here.” He took notice of the boy who was standing near the door. “Hai,” he bowed, “but I’ll be leaving now; I just brought him home to make sure he’s safe.” Bowing again, he began to turn around only to be stopped by her suggestion. “Ne~ it’s late and it might be dangerous for you to go home alone, why don’t you sleep over here.” Shocked by his mother’s suggestion, he quickly retorted “Eh? Demo, where is he going to sleep? You’re going to sleep in the guest room how about him?” “Oh its fine honey, he could sleep on the futon you have in your room, is it okay with you Yamashita-kun?” a warm happy smile was plastered on her face which made Yamapi unable to refuse. “Hai, daijoubu desu, thank you.” He bowed once again, only to see her get up and bid them a good night.
And before he knew it, he was wearing Yuya’s big old t-shirt and pajama bottoms. They were gifts, he said, from relatives who haven’t seen him for a while. He was relieved that he didn’t have to sleep in the clothes he wore for the day. He went out from Yuya’s bathroom; he saw the futon, carefully placed on the floor with pillows and a comforter. Awkward. That’s what the atmosphere is. It was awkward. “Uh- Yuya, you didn’t have to, I could do it by myself you know…” he muttered, breaking the awkward silence. “It’s okay, you’re the guest anyway.” He replied, striding towards the bathroom, giving Yamapi a knowing glance as he closed the door.
Several minutes passed by and none of them said a word to each other. It wasn’t time to sleep yet, especially for boys like them. It was half past nine and both were lying on their bed, staring at Yuya’s ceiling. Since it was a Saturday, they could sleep late, Yamapi thought. Therefore, he took the chance to ask Yuya about the formality. “Yuya, all of a sudden, you call me Yamashita again instead of Yamapi… nande?” He sat up, blanket covering his legs, and looked at Yuya. “I-It’s nothing…” Yuya shifted in his bed, back facing Yamapi who’s now confused. “Then if it’s nothing, then call me the way you used to.” He was pissed off at Yuya’s answer but he knew better than to let his anger throw him off the edge. “Okay, ne~ Yamapi, I’m sleepy already, Oyasumi.” It was a cold answer, so he didn’t force anything out of Yuya. He just sighed and slid inside his futon, waiting for sleep to dawn upon him.
Of course, he wasn’t really sleepy and sleep really couldn’t dawn upon the other. Thoughts drifted in each of their minds, practically thinking about each other. Especially on how close they were, one on the bed and the other on the floor. Whatever happened that day clearly made Yamapi realize his own feelings. He is sure that he’s fallen in love with his best friend, his best friend since high school. He couldn’t believe that he just realized it now, he finally could explain why he always felt over protective of the boy.
‘Damn, I’m so stupid to just realized it now’ he thought as his palm came in contact with his forehead with all the thinking. He felt so happy, so happy about the wonderful feeling of love. Yes, he fell in love before (at least that’s what he thinks) but the sensation he’s feeling right now is over whelming. Feeling motivated, he’s decided that he will make Yuya fall in love with him. He looked at Yuya who, he assumed, was already sleeping unaware that that boy likes him too.
Yamapi’s action toward Yuya definitely made Yuya curious. He thought of what it meant and such and finally ended up having the conclusion of “he’s just over protective because I’m younger”. This thought definitely hurt Yuya, he’s glad that Yamapi cares about him, but he wants more. He wants to be the person who Yamapi loves more than anything. Thinking that he has no chance, and that Pi’s actions were just as friends, he silently sobbed as he drifted off to sleep.
Morning arrived and Yuya found himself alone in his bedroom with Yamapi missing. With the pillow and blanket stacked on top of the futon, he assumed Yamapi left without saying anything and he felt sad. Trudging sleepily towards the bathroom to do his thing he did not notice the figure in front of the sink. “Ohayou Yuya,” Pi greeted with a mouthful of toothpaste. “Eh!! Gomenasai! I thought you left already!” he blushed a deep shade of red and ran out of the bathroom when he saw Pi in his boxers only.“I’m sorry for barging in the bathroom a while ago, I seriously didn’t know that you were there.” Yamapi shrugged, saying it was nothing and that it wasn’t his entire fault. They walked down the road to where Yamapi’s house was located. “Uhm, about before, I’m sorry, it was an accident!” Yuya bowed several times, asking for an apology, he wanted to be on good terms with him. “Oh… uhm, that, uh, it’s okay, it was an accident, don’t worry about it.” Embarrassed and all, he waved at Yuya when they arrived at his house and quickly shut the door to avoid Yuya. He didn’t want to show Yuya his blushing face. He loved him after all, he didn’t want to get embarrassed in front of him. He’s not ready, yes, he loves Yuya but he isn’t ready for a relationship. Heck, he didn’t even know what Yuya felt about him. He was scared of rejection, scared that it would destroy their friendship and everything else.
