I don't think I can explain the fascination.

I guess it's just one of those movies that you like or dislike. Kind of like all of those people I know who hate Dune.

Dune is my favorite sci-fi movie of all time. The original David Lynch version, that is. I hated the remake, and I also hated the new extended version of the original.

The last 20 minutes is worth sitting through the rest of the movie. It picks up quite a bit, and all the weirdness pays off.
