It is too bad there really isn't any time we can really make it non-arbitrary; the Winter Solstice moves from year to year, so we'd just make it closer most of the time. Hurricane season doesn't end at any clear time. We could go from when the Earth is closest to or furthest from the sun in its orbit, though, but that'd likely be fairly nonsensical. And besides, summer is winter and winter is summer in half the world, so it will be arbitrary regardless.

However, I think we do need a less arbitrary starting date. Maybe when WWIII happens we'll have a better one.
