2008 Update
I've just returned from having another hormone implant and it's reminded me that an update is due.
My last review was two months ago and the news on the activity of the prostate is good.
My PSA level was 0.02, compared with a normal reading at my age of around 3-4 (or less). My reading is thus around .5% of the normal reading (which is a ( Read more... ) -
Blood Pressure
Back to see the doctor today to check on the effect of dropping Amlodopine. I could tell from the pressure of the cuff that the news was not going to be good. In fact it much higher than it had been. So I'm now alpha-blockers. They relax the artery walls to lower blood pressure. They are third-line drugs because their side-effects can be serious, ( Read more... ) -
Reduction in side effect
Ten days or so after stopping the Amlodopine I am glad to be able to report that the swelling of my feet is much reduced. I can see sinews and there's generally more definition. Oddly it has made it much easier to cut my toe nails as I could get the clippers between nail and toe more easily. It seems to have been a good call.

Medication
Well, that was quick! The GP I usually see is on holiday so I saw a different doctor in the practice. The consultation lasted about three minutes. I described the problem and possible solution. Quarterly report
My appointments are now every three months so I will use them as the trigger for a progress report.
Generally speaking, I am in good health and my hair has grown back completely grey but curlier than before. A few weeks ago I thought my reflection looked the head of a classical statue and later a friend commented: "You look like Nero or someone ( Read more... ) -
Current Status
Long time no post!
I got my GP to find out the results of my last PSA test and the news is good. The count is down to 0.06 which is within normal bounds. I have another appointment on August 2nd so I hope to find out more then.

Follow up Appointment
I had an a appointment at Dr Barber's clinic on Thursday (17th). I expected to find out something of how the treatment had gone but it turned out to be a disappointment in that I didn't learn anything! The problem is that a PSA assay takes a long time so there was nothing they could tell me.

Back to work!
I was up shortly after 0600, dressed in my lightweight suit-which still fits, just!-and caught the 0755 for Swindon. I had to switch on my consultant persona after an absence of more than six months but he seemed to come back ok.

Normal Service is resumed
Well almost. I'm feeling a lot better but there still seem to be some foods that leave me feeling queasy. I embarked on a mammoth office tidy yesterday. It's still ongoing but the piles of paper tucked in odd corners are being reduced to order.
