I assume that you only make money from clicks? Or can you generate revenue from eyeballs on site?
Because I never, ever, click through ads to purchase. In most cases I don't even bother to read the advertizing. Unless it's one of those jump up and dance in your face ads, which only guarantees I'll avoid the advertizer's site.
So, am I still evil for reading XKCD on Live Journal instead of on his site?
How you make money depends on what sort of advertising you have on the site. Google Adsense will just be a pay per click, but Project Wonderful you can make money based on page views. In a way at least, people bid on spots to advertise on your site, two factors that people see when placing a bid are traffic and clicks. Generally speaking a site with higher traffic will generate higher bids.
In regards to whether or not you actually click on advertising on a website, I think you are similar to most folks and suffer from "Banner Blindness" where you might register the fact there is an ad there but you don't read it.
You would only be considered evil, if you were reading the comic through a distribution means that the artist had not authorized. If you read it via Randall's LJ then that is not evil.
