I still read it! Every time there is a terrible stormy winter's night and I am propositioned by a sinister beggar. Then I check in the morning to see if I have acquired any mystickal powers, eg mastery over earth, sea and sky. Or discovered a Grail.

Since reading the His Dark Materials trilogy whenever I see a moth I whisper 'pantalaimon' to it, just in case it might reply.

The more you know!

That is another great series, and you do have to wonder why anyone is bothering to read H**** P***** or those earnest, anodyne Narnia books when there is any number of terrific stories about magickal children.

I personally steer clear of armoured bears these days, just in case. Also, I always knew dust was intellergent, as it seems to be able to get into my flat while I'm not around, and settle on my bookshelves and nice shoes.

I was already an adult when someone pointed me to The Dark Is Rising, but even as an adult it totally enthralled me.

I'm glad you posted this - you've just prompted me to add her to my list of books to look for in secondhand stores. (It's an a4 page, folded many times, that I keep in my wallet)
