It seems like a photo session would be difficult to manage. If I were you, I might try for an interview instead. Maybe you could find a local magazine or something that would help sponsor it. If you ask sufficiently interesting questions and show a great depth of understanding through them, perhaps you might be able to convince him to do a photoshoot later.
