So there's a town in Japan called Obama, and apparently many people there want Barack Obama to win the US presidency in hopes that it will promote their town by association.

So hilarious stuff like this happens.

I like taking pictures down the microscope. Last year, Julia and I were at a thrift store and I found a toy microscope for two dollars, so I bought it and set up a peripheral blood smear on it.

The magnification was only 100x and the resolution was pretty poor, but the photo looks pretty neat.

Can one of my more politically-minded friends explain to me how the Bloc Québécois got 50 seats with 1,379,565 votes but the NDP gets only 37 seats with 2,517,075 votes?

Daphne and I were puzzling this one out last night and I don't actually have an answer for her. (Okay, I admit that I slept through high-school law class).

i am sooooooooo sick with a cold right now. it's moved into my chest so i'm all hacky and gross and i'm losing my voice. pity meeeeeeeeeeeee.

on the bright side, julia bought me herbal tea and daphne made me spicy korean food to clear out my sinuses. my friends rock.

As someone who has never personally experienced frosh week, can I just say how fascinated I am by the whole thing? I see strange things every time I step outside! People with skin dyed blue. Our friend Rob just had a birthday, so Daphne made him a cake and I made the frosting. Decorating was a combined effort.

Behold! A maple walnut cake with butternut ahem, butter rum hazelnut frosting. Very nutty indeed.

Tonight was a movie night at my place. Daphne and Maria and I decided to watch Coming Out, which the cover proclaimed was the only gay movie to come out of East Berlin.
