Callie woke with a small smile on her face when the memories of the previous night hit her. It was the first night in weeks that she’d managed to sleep through the night, the first night she didn’t cry herself to sleep since the break up. She finally felt hope like there was a chance of her happy ending. She was trying not to get her hopes up, but she couldn’t help herself.
Callie reluctantly got up out of her warm bed and went to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day ahead. She wasn’t really looking forward to work, as much as she was looking forward to seeing Arizona and having coffee with her and finally being able to talk to her about what lies ahead for them.
Once Callie had finished getting ready, she walked out of her bedroom towards the kitchen, and prepared something for breakfast. Cristina was already sitting at the counter eating some cereal. Cristina looked at Callie, before moving her line of site back towards Callie’s bedroom door.
“She went home Cristina.” Callie told her, while pouring herself a bowl of cereal. Cristina just stared at her in shock before shaking her head and returning her concentration to her breakfast. “About last night” Callie started to say.
“I really don’t care.” Cristina cut in. “I may be a bitch Callie, but I was just trying to help. It didn’t come across that way, but I’m sick of seeing you walk around with lost puppy dog eyes, sneaking sideways glances at each other. It’s none of my business though, so I’m just going to shut my mouth.” Cristina added
Callie just stared at Cristina. She knew deep down that Cristina’s intentions were coming from a good place. She’s always been loyal to her, after George and Erica she didn’t judge, she was just there. She knew this was Cristina’s way of showing that she cared. She was always brutal and up front about what she thought, and that’s what she admired most in her roommate, that’s what she valued most in this weird friendship they had.
“Thank you.” Callie said out of nowhere. Cristina looks up surprised; she knitted her eyebrow in confusion.
“Say what?” She asked, wondering if Callie remembers what she said last night.
“Thank you, Cristina.” Callie repeated. “If we don’t try and work this out, we’re going to regret it. We’re having coffee today, so that we can talk. She left last night because she needed to think.” Callie explained. “Also I’m sorry, you walking in on us. I’m annoyed you did.” Callie joked. “But in all seriousness we should have gone to my room.” Callie laughs.
Cristina just shrugged her shoulders and continued eating her cereal, not wanting to make a big deal out of this. Deep down she’s glad that they’re going to attempt to resolve their issue. She honestly believes that Callie deserves to be happy for once, but she’ll never tell anyone that.
Callie knows that the shrug Cristina gave her was her accepting the apology she walked towards the door to put her shoes on. “I have to run, going to be late for rounds.” Callie shouted as she opened the door.
Callie made her way out into the cold air thankful in that moment that she only lived across the road from the hospital and that she’d be in warmth again soon.
“Good Morning.” She heard, before turning to the direction that the soft sweet voice came from, Callie immediately smiled a massive grin.
“Morning.” She replied, looking at Arizona. “What are you doing here?” She asked curious.
Arizona smiled at her and holds up a cup of coffee. “I thought I’d bring you, your pre-rounds coffee.” holding it out towards Callie.
“Thank you.” Callie replied sincerely. Before taking the cup of coffee, she placed a soft kiss on Arizona’s cheek. She saw a small hint of a blush surface. “This doesn’t count as our coffee date for today does it?” Callie inquired as she started walking towards the hospital, Arizona following.
Arizona giggled. “No silly. This is just me bringing you a coffee before work. Plus I didn’t know how you would be feeling after last night. I myself don’t feel too crash hot.” Arizona told her.
Callie smiled at her. Her heart beating faster than it should be at this time in the morning. “I’m actually feeling great.” Callie said. “I can hold my liquor better than you obviously.” She jokes and bumps shoulders with the blonde as they laugh.
They reached the front doors of the hospital and make their way towards the locker room in comfortable silence. Arizona watched the brunette walk letting her gaze fall up and down Callie’s body. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw a small smile creep its way across Callie’s lips.
“Anyone ever tell you how obvious at perving you are?” Callie asked still looking straight ahead, her smile now turning to a grin.
Arizona didn’t remove her gaze from the beautiful Latina. “Isn’t it only perving if you don’t want them to know? Maybe I want you to know how hot you are.” She smirked at Callie.
Callie laughed and stopped just before the locker room doors making the blonde stop too. “I already knew how hot I was, it was written all over your face the minute I stepped out of my apartment block. Callie said. She smiled when it got the response she was hoping for. Arizona’s cheeks had turned a light shade of pink. “Now has anyone told you, how adorable you are when you blush?” Callie asked causing Arizona to blush even more.
“Only you’d find that adorable.” Arizona chuckled.
Callie laughed and continued walking the short distance to the locker room, followed by Arizona. Once inside they quickly changed into their scrubs. Arizona walked over and gave Callie and kiss on the cheek. “I’ll see you later okay. Is 11 good for you?” She asked with a smile on her face.
Callie nodded “I’ll see you there. “ She smiled, as she watch Arizona leave the locker room. She sighed happily before taking the last sip of her coffee, and throwing the cup away before leaving the locker room.
Callie had a fairly busy morning but was glad to be sitting in the cafeteria waiting for Arizona. She looked at her watch, Arizona was 5 minutes late, which shouldn’t seem strange, but Arizona was never late, she put it down to her military upbringing.
Callie’s phone beeped in her pocket, she pulled it out and saw it was a text message from Arizona she smiled before reading it. ‘Hey sweetie, I’m so sorry, I’m not going to make coffee, I have an emergency surgery in 20, have to get ready for it.’ Callie sighed, ‘life of a surgeon’ she thought.
She placed her phone back in her pocket and walked over to the coffee cart and ordered two coffees. ‘If she can’t come to me, I’ll go to her.’ She thought to herself, she picked up the two coffees and walked towards the paeds unit.
Arizona was standing at the nurse’s station, she already had her scrub cap on and was about to go into surgery, she was just signing off on some paperwork. When she felt someone place a hand on her back, she knew who it was instantly and smiled, she turned to face Callie. “Hi.” She said.
“Coffee?” She asked holding the cut out for her.
Arizona couldn’t help but grin. “Thank you. I’m sorry I couldn’t make our date.” She sighed.
“It’s okay, you have to save the tiny humans.” Callie replied.
Arizona laughed at Callie’s use of her own words. “Don’t worry; we’ll still get to talk ok?” Arizona said as she moved a strand of hair behind Callie’s ear.
Callie smiled. “How about tonight? I’d like to take you on a date. If that’s ok with you?” She asked.
Arizona bit her lip. “Um I have plans tonight.” She told Callie.
Callie’s face fell immediately. “Oh, I see, I mean you’re hot and probably have many people waiting in line to date you. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Callie responded before she walked away.
“Wait Callie!” Arizona yelled. “You’ve got it wrong.” She said as she caught up to her and grabbed her by the shoulder. Callie pulled away from her.
“Look its ok, were broken up, you have the right to date.” Callie replied before quickly walking away upset, leaving Arizona stunned.
“It’s not a date.” She whispered watching as Callie disappeared down the corridor. She sighed and turned back towards the operating room.
