A/N Okay Firstly I'd like to apologise for taking so long to update this story. Secondly this story took on a life of its own today, I didn't even know what was happening until it did... PLEASE don't kill me. :P
Callie walks out of the operating room and sighs. She loves her job, she loves fixing bones and operating on people, but tonight for the last four hours, she hated every minute in that OR. All Callie could think about was Arizona, and how she was missing out on dinner with Arizona and her parents.
Callie walks over to the nurse’s station to finish off her paperwork, she lets the nurse know that she’s heading home, and if there are anymore complications, she will have to page an on-call orthopedic surgeon. The nurse nods before walking towards the patient’s room, to do his post op obs.
Callie quickly signs the chart before making her way towards the locker room, she walks straight to her locker opening it and searching through her bag. She pulls out her cell phone and smiles when she sees two text messages from Arizona.
Callie quickly opens the first text and reads it. ‘Hey baby, I hope the emergency isn’t too time consuming and stressful. I’ll see you at yours later? Text me when you’re finished work. Love you. Ari xxx‘ Callie smiles before moving onto the next text. ‘Dinners over, thank god. I do love my parents but sometimes…they do my head in. I can’t wait to see you. I’m back at my place for now. I don’t have my key to your apartment anymore and didn’t know whether Cristina would be home. Text me when you finish and I’ll be there in a flash. Love you. xxx’
Callie smirks to herself, placing the phone in her pocket, opting not to reply to Arizona’s texts. She grabs her coat and bag and rushes toward the exit, planning on surprising the blonde when she turns up at her doorstep. Callie doesn’t even bother to change out of her scrubs; she didn’t think there was a point to changing into street clothes, when she’s not plan on wearing clothes for long.
“Dr Torres.” Callie hears just as she’s steps outside the hospital. She sighs before turning towards the voice.
“Dr Hunt.” She greets politely.
“Your shift over for the night?” He asks walking over to her.
“Yes thank god. If you need a consultation, you’ll have to get someone else from ortho.” Callie replies, looking at her watch.
Owen smiles at Callie. “I won’t keep you here any longer. Night Dr Torres. Oh and if Cristina’s still up when you get in, can you tell her I’m working later then I thought?” He asks her.
“I’m not going home tonight, I’m heading to Arizona’s” Callie replies a smile spreading across her face.
Owen smirks, “I’m glad you two have worked things out. I’ll see you later, Callie.”He walks back towards the hospital.
Callie smiles and turns her attention to her bag, in search of her car keys. She knows they’re in there somewhere. She shakes her bag, hoping the jingling noise they make will give her a hint on their whereabouts.
Callie’s so preoccupied with searching for her keys that when she steps off the side walk she doesn’t see or hear the speeding out of control car heading her way. Callie finally looks up when she hears the screeching noise the tires are making, and only has seconds to register what’s about to happen before the car hits her. She gets thrown in the air and lands with a loud thud on the windshield of the car, smashing it, before rolling off of the car onto the road, the contents of her bag scattering everywhere.
Owen’s waiting at the lift when he hears the screeching tires and make his way back towards the entrance, just as Callie gets hit by the car. He quickly shouts at the nurse’s nearby to page the trauma team, and to get a gurney, a spinal board and a neck brace and meet him out the front.
Owen run to Callie’s side and quickly checks on the brunette’s condition, careful not to move her too much until he know the full extent of her injuries. “Dr Torres, its Dr Hunt. Can you hear me?” He asks placing his fingers on her pulse point, sighing when he finds a steady pulse, he checks her breathing and airways making sure she doesn’t any occlusions.
He does a quick once over, trying to assess which are the more serious injuries. Callie has cuts all over her face and arms, she’s pretty badly cut up from the broken glass of the windshield. Owen’s main concern though is for spinal injuries and the massive cut across Callie’s head, she’s losing a lot of blood. He places one of his hands over the gash, placing as much pressure as he can.
“Dr Torres, if you can hear me squeeze my hand.” He instructs, taking one of her limp hands in his. “Come on Callie, don’t be stubborn.” He sighs, before checking her pulse point again, making sure it’s still regular. He pulls out his penlight and checks Callie’s pupils.
“Dr Hunt, what do we have?” Bailey asks as she runs towards him, carrying a well equipped trauma kit.
Owen looks up at the approaching trauma team. “It’s Dr Torres.” Owen tells Bailey softly. “Hit by a speeding car, strong pulse, breathings steady, pupil responsive, but no conscious response, yet.” He explains as Bailey kneels down next to Callie.
Owen takes the neck brace and spinal board from the nurse. “Page Shepard, and Sloan.” He shouts towards the group standing by. One of the interns runs off back towards the hospital. “Dr Grey, check the driver.” Owen says, before placing the collar around Callie’s neck carefully, and placing the spinal board underneath her.
“Karev, Percy, Avery you’re with me.” Owen tells them. The rest of you are with the driver.
While Owen’s directing the group of surgeons to their tasks, bailey’s wrapping a bandage around Callie’s head trying to stop the bleeding. “We need to get her inside.” Bailey says looking at the four men. “On the count of four we’ll lift her carefully onto the gurney.” Bailey states.
All five of them prepared themselves for the lift. “One, two, three, lift.” Bailey counts. They carefully lift Callie and the spinal board and place her on the gurney, they quickly make their way towards the hospital.
“Dr Karev.” Owen says, placing a hand on the residents arm stopping him. “I need you to call Dr Robbins. Get her here, I don’t care how. Use a sick kid if you have to, but don’t let on about Dr Torres. She has to drive and I for one don’t want to be working on her, in my ER tonight.” Owen tells Alex.
“I can’t lie to her. She’s my boss and my mentor. I won’t lie to her, I’ll go get her myself if I have to. But Dr Robbins is smart, she’ll drive safely. She has a good head on her shoulder during situations like this.” Karev replies.
“So you’ve seen how she’d react, to the love of her life lying on a table in the ER before?” Owen retorts angrily, looking over his shoulder towards the ER. “You know what, I don’t have time for this, you deal with it how you see fit. But the consequences are on you.” Owen states before jogging to catch up to the others as they enter the ER.

Arizona’s sitting on her couch watch TV, she has a small bag of clothes packed sitting near the door, ready for her quick retreat. She smiles to herself, she’s actually back with Callie, and she gets to fall asleep with Callie by her side for the first time in a month, granted there may not be much sleeping happening if she has it her way.
Arizona’s pulled out of her thoughts by her phone. She smiles thinking its Callie, she quickly picks it up and reads the Callie ID. She allows a small pout to cross her lips when it shows ‘Alex Karev’.
“Dr Robbins” She says answering the phone.
“Dr Robbins, its Alex Karev.” She hears down the line.
Arizona looks at her watch almost 11pm, she knows this definitely isn’t a personal call, not that Alex has ever called her before for personal reasons. “Hi Alex, what’s the problem? And this better be good, because I’m waiting on a call from Calliope.” Arizona replies.
Arizona hears Alex sigh through the phone. “Dr Robbins, I don’t know how to say this, I need you to stay calm okay?” He asks pleadingly.
“Alex you haven’t kill one of my patients have you?” Arizona jokes, trying to lighten the mood.
“No Dr Robbins, but there’s been an accident. I need you to get to the hospital. But please don’t speed be safe, she needs you to be safe.” Karev tells her.
Arizona thinks for a second ‘she’ “Who are you talking about Alex? And what sort of Accident?” She asks confused.
“Before I tell you, promise me you won’t speed?” Karev asks her.
“I promise Alex. Just tell me.” Arizona responds.
“There was an accident, she was leaving the hospital and was hit by a speeding car, and she’s being treat .” Karev starts to say.
“WHO ALEX?” Arizona impatiently cuts him off.
“Callie.” Karev sighs into the phone.
Arizona hung up her phone after hearing her girlfriend’s name. She didn’t expect that, she can feel hot tears running down her cheeks, I have to be strong she thinks to herself wiping the tears away, she takes a deep breath before grabbing her coat and bag and running out of her apartment towards her car.
Once she’s in her car she speeds off towards the hospital. She doesn’t care about any promises she’s made about not speeding, Alex hadn’t told her all the rules, he didn’t tell her that her girlfriend was in the Emergency room after being hit by a car. That changes the situation.
Arizona makes it to the hospital in record time, she knows she was lucky that she wasn’t in an accident or that she didn’t cause an accident, but right now all she cares about is getting to her girlfriends side. She runs through the hospital entrance towards the ER. Just before Arizona gets to the room Callie’s in, someone’s strong arms grab her around the waist and stop her.
“Oh no you don’t, you know the rules.” Mark states holding onto Arizona tightly.
“I don’t give a shit about rules Mark. Let me go now!” She shouts, trying to squirm her way out of his arms unsuccessfully. “You have till the count of five to let me go, I was raised by a Marine and you don’t want to know what I’m about to do to you.” Arizona says furiously.
Mark loosens his grip on her waist and allows her to step away from him. He grabs her arm softly. “You know they’re only going to kick you out.” He says softly looking into her eyes. “I was in there, they kicked me out cause I got too emotional.” He tells her looking at the ground.
Arizona ignores Marks attempts to get her to stay out of the room and walks straight through the door. She pauses for a second when she first enters. Callie’s lying on the table leads hooked to her everywhere. She sighs and takes a deep breath and makes her way over to the table.
“Dr Robbins, you shouldn’t be in here.” Bailey states from her position at Callie’s stomach, she’s checking for any internal bleeding with the ultrasound machine.
Arizona ignores her, doesn’t even react to anything she’s saying, she just walks straight to Callie’s head and places a small kiss on her forehead and whispers in her ear. “I’m here baby. You stay strong okay?” She pleads, tears running down her face, she runs her fingers over Callie’s cheek gently.
“Arizona, I’m going to say this once more before I have you removed. Don’t think I can’t, I managed to remove Mark Sloan myself. You can’t be in here” Bailey states boldly.
Arizona looks up into Bailey’s eyes, allowing Bailey to see the pain within her baby blues, the tears freely running down her face. “I promise I won’t get in the way, I’ll stay right here, I promise, please don’t make me leave her.” She cries out.
Bailey takes a deep breath looking around the room, to Owen and Derek, they both nod. “Fine. But you interfere and I’ll drag your roller-skating ass out of here, quicker than you’ll know what hit you. You got it?” She says.
Arizona lets a small smile of thanks cross her lips as she nods. “How is she?” She asks them softly.
“We’re waiting on her x-rays to see if there’s any spinal damage or broken bones, she has a possible ankle fracture and her right wrist doesn’t look too good. We still have to get her to CT to check for possible hemorrhaging, she hit her head pretty hard Arizona, she still hasn’t regained consciousness. Her heart rate and oxygen are perfect though, she is hanging in there.” Owen explains.
Arizona lightly brushes her lips across Callie’s cheek. “Come on Calliope, wake up for me.” She softly begs her. She leans in closer to Callie’s ear and whispers quietly so no one else can hear “How am I going to have your babies if you don’t wake up for me.”
“Once she’s done in CT I need to take her to the OR.” Bailey tells Derek. “She has some internal bleeding, I need to find where it’s coming from, looks like the spleen.” Bailey explains.
Derek nods, looking at Avery, “Call CT tell them we’re on our way.” Derek informs him.
“Dr Robbins you need to step back now.” Bailey lets her know.
Arizona quickly leans down and removes Callie’s oxygen mask and kisses her lips tenderly. “I love you.” Arizona whispers before kissing her cheek and placing the oxygen mask back on. She stands back and watches them wheel Callie away towards CT.
Derek turns to Arizona, “Go get some coffee, and wait in the third floor conference room, I’ll find you when I have the results, I promise. Take Mark with you.” Derek says looking over his shoulder towards his best friend who’s pacing back and forth outside the room.
Arizona musters up enough energy to nod her silent response to Derek. She sighs when he leaves the room, and presses her back up against the wall, running her hands through her hair. She lets her emotions take over and slides to the floor crying, hugging her legs and resting her head on her knees.
A couple of minutes later, Arizona feels someone join her on the floor and a strong arm wrap around her shoulder, she gives in and lets her head fall back against his chest hugging him while she sobs.
Mark places a soft kiss on the top of Arizona’s head, rubbing his hand over her back trying to sooth her. He has his own tears running down his cheek now. He hates not knowing what to do, he can only imagine the pain the blonde is going through. “She strong, she’s a fighter.” Mark whispers, trying to remain positive.
Arizona looks up at him, and takes a deep breath trying to steady her emotions, she needs to be the good man in the storm for Callie. She feels Marks fingers run across her cheek wiping the tears away for her. “I need to call Callie’s parents.” She sighs, she places a hand on Mark’s shoulder and uses it pull herself into a standing position.
“Then you’re buying me coffee.” She says, offers Mark her hand to help him up. She doesn’t always see eye to eye with him, but right now he’s her support and she’s his, he knows to some extent what she was going through, they need each other.
Mark smiles at her and takes the offered hand and stands up, “Why aren’t you buying?” He softly jokes.
“Because I’m about to talk to Mr Torres and tell him his daughter is unconscious and about to go into surgery… we can swap if you want?” She asks hopeful.
Mark laughs. “No way, you’re her girlfriend, you deal with the parents.”
Arizona sighs, pulling out her cell phone. She had Callie save her parents number in her phone incase anything ever happened and she needed to contact them, she didn’t think she’d ever have to use it, well she hoped she wouldn’t have to use it. But she was thankful that she’d done it. She found Mr Torres’ number and hit the dial button.
“Carlos Torres” He answers the phone.
“Mr Torres, its Arizona Robbins.” She replies.
“Dr Robbins. Nice to hear from you” Carlos greets.
“I’m sorry to be calling so late, or should I say so early. Its early is Miami right now isn’t it?” She nervously mumbles.
“Yes Dr Robbins, it is indeed early. Is there a problem? You sound flustered.” Carlos asks.
“I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but Calliope’s been in an accident. She was hit by a car leaving the hospital, they just took her to CT to make sure she doesn’t have any brain injuries and then they’re taking her to the OR, she has internal bleeding.” Arizona sobs out, tears running down her face again.
Mark walks over and places an arm around Arizona giving her support, when he sees that she can no longer talk, he takes the phone from her. “Mr Torres, this is Mark Sloan, I think you and Mrs Torres should come to Seattle as soon as you can.” Mark tells him cutting to the chase.
“We will be there as soon as we can Dr Sloan. Tell Arizona I appreciate her calling me, and that we’ll be there soon. Can you keep us updated please?” Carlos asks concerned.
“Of course, as soon as I know any changes, I’ll let you know.” Mark informs Carlos and hangs the phone up. Mark wraps his arms around Arizona tightly and held her until he feels her sobs subside.
“Thank you.” She whispers.
“You don’t have to thank me, although you can buy the coffees now.” He jokes, putting on a goofy smile, hoping it’ll make her smile in return.
Arizona scoffs. “I spoke to him too…” She pouts.
“How about I buy you both coffees?”
Mark and Arizona turn around to see Cristina standing there. She smiles softly at them. “Owen called, thought I might like to know that my roommate was in an accident.” She tells them and smiles softly at Arizona, “She’s strong, she’ll fight, and she’ll be okay. I’ll deny it if you ever tell anyone about this okay? I’m here for ‘surgical’ opportunities.” She jokes. “I can’t have people thinking I have feelings now can I?”
Mark and Arizona laugh as they all walk towards the cafeteria. “Of course not, Cristina Yang with a heart is unheard of. Even if we said anything they wouldn’t believe us” Mark teases.
Arizona takes out her phone again and searches for the number she wants. “I’ll be there in a minute. I need to make a call.” Arizona tells them.
Mark and Cristina nod and continue the distance to the cafeteria’s coffee cart. Arizona presses the dial button on her phone again and waits patiently for the answer.
“Hello.” She hears the person answer groggily
“Daddy.” Arizona replies sobbing again.
“Ari, baby what’s wrong?” Daniel Robbins replies fearfully
“Callie’s been in an accident. She was hit by a car” She sobs.
“Oh god, is she okay?” Her dad asks.
“She’s still unconscious, they just took her to CT and then they are taking her to the OR she has internal bleeding.” Arizona weakly replies, tears streaming down her face.
“Your mother and I will be there shortly okay? I’ll call you when we get to the hospital.” Daniel tells her.
“Okay, thank you.” Arizona says.
“Arizona?” Arizona’s mum asks having taken the phone out of her husband’s hand, after over hearing the conversation.
“Yes.” Arizona answers
“She’s strong, just remember that. We love you, we’ll be there soon.” She tells her daughter.
“I love you too.” Arizona replies before hanging the phone up. She wipes her eyes again and walks towards the cafeteria to join the other two.
